I'd love to try something new, just to see what happens.

                     De Gea

    Darmian Smalling Rojo CBJ/TFM

Valencia Schneiderlin Herrera Memphis

             Rashford Martial

See what happens if we revert back to a 4-4-2...

Dropping Varerla because he's more attacking minded and I think Valencia will do a job attacking wise on the right with Darmian being the more defensive fullback. Blind needs a break, he's not looked too bad recently but he's got to be knackered at this point. Give one of the youth a shot at left back. I'd prefer CBJ because of his deadly crosses but I can't remember if hes fit or not. Memphis playing as a left midfielder should be interesting. Giving him the freedom to be more attacking would probably work out. Rashford and Martial in the middle to see if they can't conjure up something with their deadly pace and ability to beat a player.

I understand what you thinking but don't you think we'd be better of with the current system and a bit more freedom for Martial, Memphis, Herrera/Mata etc.?

Insanity - trying the same shit over and over and expecting different results.

don't think it's the formation thats the problem tho. 4-4-2 with van Gaal philosophy doesn't make sense

I wouldn't. I just want a time machine to the first of july.

I'd go with a 4-1-4-1 switching to a 4-3-3 when we are attacking

                        De Gea

       Valencia Smalling Rojo CBJ

                        Schneiderlin

 Lingard Herrera Schweinsteiger Martial

                        Rashford

I'd start Valencia as Darmian struggles with pace and Varela struggles defensively, so Valencia is almost an in between of the two. He and CBJ will also provide some width which I feel we lack at times. Rojo should partner Smalling as Blind looks exhausted and I think he gets dragged out of position to often. This requires our left midfielder to track back, and the last thing we want is Martial at left back. Schneiderlin should just park himself right in front of our back 4, like he did against Arsenal.

Moving to the midfield, I've started Schweinsteiger and Herrera (if fit) at central midfield. They offer some fight and quality that we lack too often. Mata shouldn't start as he has been poor recently and often goes missing. One of these two must always be running into the box when the ball goes wide, I'm tired of seeing only one person in the box. Fellaini, debates over his quality aside, cannot start this game. I can't stress this enough, with all the talk around him lately if he is playing from the beginning he is a red card waiting to happen. Throw him on after 70 minutes in an attacking role if things are not working

Onto attack, Lingard starts because of lack of options there, and he can also help defensively. I would not mind seeing Valencia as a right midfielder with Darmian at RB either. Martial was great vs Liverpool and should continue that, be it on the left or up front. I'm undecided on whether Memphis or Rashford should start, I've gone with Rashford as he works harder and I feel that will pay off.

In terms of tactics we should aim for something similar to what we did vs Liverpool. Overlapping fullbacks crossing the ball into the box, where there should always be 2+ players. Give Martial and Rashford/Depay freedom, and allow our midfield to make runs. Our play is way too static, and it doesn't suit the players. If we play like we did vs Liverpool in the first half, we need the fullback on the opposite side to stay back along with Schneiderlin because we looked far too exposed against Liverpool. But I think having mobile midfielders and Schneiderlin in the team will help this. We should aim to attack City, as it is obviously their weakness.

Come on United

Yeah I would agree that this is our best way to get a win. Our best performances came last season with 433/451. It allows more wing play and put less pressure on the wingers defensively. Honestly, I know most won't agree with me but Fellaini is made for this formation in one of the more attacking CM roles. He was in great form when we played this formation and always does well for belgium and they play this way too. My main reservation would also be the chances of a red card.

Yeah, that was my main reason for dropping him. When we use him to attack, he actually offers something. Problem is, whenever he plays for us, he play at central midfield, and he leaves too big of a gap in there. There is no doubt in my mind Fellaini would be a lot less hated if he was used correctly

I certainly wouldn't bring Memphis in like most people are suggesting. He has shown up once this season against PL teams and that was as a Striker against Watford. He gets bullied by PL FB's way to much ease. Unless ofc we play Martial on the left and Memphis as the Striker.

Ideally I want CBJ at LB as we need the FB's offering support which Rojo is ok at but not fantastic. Either Verala or Valencia at RB for the same reason. Bastian and Morgan as CM. Mata in the number 10 position. Lingard on the right, Martial on the left and Rashford uptop. If we play Depay as a striker then maybe dropping Lingard and using Rashfords pace although that may leave us exposed defensively

You're right about Memphis but he can also be a deciding creative player like against Arsenal, and now he's facing a Demichelis and Mangala led back four. Rashford is more likeble because he fights but he can easily get bullied in this game too, and his initial momentum is kind of over even though he's a massive talent.

                          De Gea

                Darmian Smalling Rojo CBJ

                        Schneiderlin

                    Herrera Lingard

                            Mata

                  Rashford Martial

SUBS: Memphis, Blind, Romero, Scweinsteiger, Valencia, Fellaini, Varela

Hey LvG didn't know you use reddit..

Nah but seriously I admire that you believe in our managers choices..

    Gk - De Gea
    .
DR - Darmian (after mistake from Varela)
    DC - Smalling
DC - Blind (probably our best pairing until the summer)
DL - Rojo (Shaw next season will be massive for us on the left.)
    .
MC - Schneiderlin (sitting, protecting back 4)
    MC - Scweinsteiger
AMC - Herrera (Shown more than Mata I think)
    AML - Memphis
    AMR - Lingard
    .
ST - Martial (he's effective on the left, but give him a chance again up top to score more and get in more dangerous positions with Rashford coming on as a sub with his pace in the 60th minute and Martial moving to the wing, giving more pace to try and get in behind tired defenders)
    .
EDIT: sorry guys, being stupid. Edited to 11 players.

    [–]LordSuuDo[S] 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

I think this is great although you have to remove Herrera or Schweinsteiger since you can't use 12 players.

I agree moving Martial out wide and bring in Rashford if needed.

    [–]craigybachaManchester United 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Sorry about that. Edited and removed Mata ;-).
