The law is structured to make it hard for someone losing a judgment to hide assets. In short, once the judgment is rendered, Gawker may appeal - but Bollea can still collect on his judgment while the appeal is pending.
If Gawker wishes to contest the monetary judgment, they can do so - but they're still liable for it in the meantime. The only out for Gawker is to file a supersedeas bond; if they do so, it suspends the rest of the monetary judgment until the appeal resolves.
In Gawker's favor, a change to Florida's law from 2012 caps the supersedeas bond at $50m, but they still have to come up with a $50m bond to get a stay on the $115m judgment. (Also note that the penalty phase isn't over yet; this was compensatory damages, the jury may still award punitive damages on top of that, so the final judgment award may be somewhat higher still.)
The question becomes whether Gawker can front $50m in cash, or obtain a loan/line of credit large enough to cover. From past history, they'd probably win on appeal.

They'd have to fork over every dime to Hulk and operate with no cash flow and a huge operating loss for the next 3 years in order to pay this off. Even with a $50 million bond, that's still about 1.75 years worth of revenue, or 8 years worth of profit.
Does anyone on earth care that much about keeping Gawker Media alive that they would be willing to float their operating expenses for the next 2-3 years? I highly doubt it. Can Gawker afford to run at a loss for the next 17 years? I doubt that, too.
