Why is no one shooting?!? (self.reddevils)

How close do they want to get? So many chances at the edge of the box. Mata, Fellaini, Carrick, etc. At some point the players need to realize that they need to fucking score so they should take chances and shoot the damn ball. Not every shot will be ideal or on target, but he'll, at least try. I just don't understand the mindset. Someone please give me some insight. Is this something that the players have been told specifically not to do by LVG, or is it something else? Honestly hate yelling "shoot" at the fucking television when they have an opening, only to see them lay the ball off to someone else.

Because if they miss, LVG writes it in his filofax and reviews it with everyone the next day - which discourages players to shoot. I said it early in the season, got downvoted by this sub for it. Looks like I was right.

Rojo shot. Wide.

Fellaini headed. Low, at Mignolet.

Blind shot. High and wide.

Martial shot. Multiple times. Other than the penalty, all high or wide.

But still, this must be better than the alternative of not shooting/playing around too much and loosing possession. At least by shooting, you test the keeper. There's always the possibility of a keeper blunder, or simply one of the shots won't be complete shit.

Can you show me anywhere that I stated we shouldn't be shooting? I didn't say, nor do I think we shouldn't be shooting. We should have taken those shots, and we should have taken more. They just needed to not be shit.

In a game where we took 17 shots (https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1058727/Live/Europe-UEFA-Europa-League-2015-2016-Man-Utd-Liverpool), plus more that were blocked and don't make it into that stat, you asking why is no-one shooting is completely and utterly missing the point. We did shoot, they were shooting, they were just utterly shit, disgraceful efforts at goal. Absolutely nothing to do with "philosophy". It was just shit. Mata's effort in particular, IMO.

When we do take a shot, it's not like we're any good at them. We have to be the most off balanced out of control team when it comes to taking a shot. Arms flailing everywhere, leaning back, sliding for the shot. Shots end up dribbling pathetically wide, hitting the first defender or ending up high and wide.

Seriously though, it's incredibly frustrating and apparently very easy to contain us when we're this shy in front of goal. It's sorta like Arsenal trying to walk it in only much worse.

On night's like tonight, you appreciate the benefit of a Robin van Persie-type player. We just don't have one anymore. I don't really understand what Louis is trying to do at all.

We had plenty of chances. No one wanted to get it on frame. Rojo missed point blank, mata had one on the edge of the 6. We had plenty of chances to score today. No one beat the keeper or put it on frame. Fellaini and lingard had close range headers right at the keeper too.
