Kennedy Davenport vs. Acid Betty (self.rupaulsdragrace)

So what are the thoughts on how this season's "villains" are being received? I'd argue that season 7 didn't have a legit villain but the fandom made sure that Kennedy was labelled as such (despite the fact that it was more than likely Ginger who actually deserved it). This season we have Acid Betty who is legitimately gunning for the title of Designated Asshole and...people are rooting for her?

She's been openly hostile and flat out rude, and has even said herself in Pre-Season interviews that she's a bitch, but people are loving it.

Can someone explain the difference? Cause I'm at a loss.

People reward honesty, and when you're a bitch... but also have talent to back it up? Yeah, that's called entertaintment.

  And are you serious about Kennedy being a villain? She was pretty sincere, and towards the end got frustrated with the younger "bra & panty" style of drags... but villain? No way, she just didn't fit the F3 storyline.

I don't consider her a villain by any stretch of the imagination but she got treated like she was. And I'm just not buying the whole "She's a bitch but she can be a bitch because she can back it up." Maybe it's because I'm just not a fan of her paint, that I'm missing something cause I just don't get it.

She was top 3 in ep. 1 & 2, got consecutive TT by Raja & Raven... Betty certainly challenged Chi2 but did help her group outperform the shit out of the other girls, and that quick glass grab after Cynthia broke the light? She's branding herself as a bitch.  

Don't confuse your lack of enthusiasm for her as her not being talented. And her upcoming neon look? I doubt she'll win, but like /u/kingbanjee said-- she's self-aware & has yet to cross that line of poor taste imo.

I feel that the fact that she stopped in the middle of performing to pick up the glass shows that she's not a complete bitch, just really picky about work which is the entire time she's on camera. And she can back up her shadiness with a ridiculous amount of C.U.N.T.

I think it would be better to compare Betty and Ginger. Both know they are good and they back it up. Where they differ though is #1 looks and #2 shade. For the latter, Betty's shade is deliberately about work so far and you get the feeling that she's really like that and not meaning to hurt anyone (e.g. her reaction to Chi Chi's "you hurt me bitch"). She's focused and a perfectionist which can be grating. Ginger (especially in Untucked though probably not in real life) seemed to often throw shade and discount the younger queens' drag (e.g. Max every episode she stayed) and felt entitled to multiple challenge wins which isn't charismatic. This type of shade seemed coy and underhanded while Betty's in your face whether you like it or not.

I would argue that Kennedy is closer (as a "villain") to Betty than Ginger even though Kennedy and Ginger are part of the old lady brigade. I think it's just that people didn't get Kennedy as much as they get Betty now because they are blinded by the beauty of team Aryan Airlines.

The look on her face when Chi2 said that she hurt her feelings actually showed some remorse, so she's not exactly a complete bitch. I feel like she's treating all of her time on camera as a job, so of course she's going to be her hardcore self that Thorgy told us about. And it works in her favor, she turns it up.

I think her bluntness and IDGAF attitude together with her style (probably a little more exciting than Kennedy's) is why so many people like her.

There was very little open hostility or conflict in S7 and a lot of passive aggressive tension (haay Ginger and Kennedy...even though I love them). Remember when Kennedy said that there was "some bullshit" performances in the Aryan Airlines team but then declined to say who multiple times when Max confronted her? It's refreshing to have somebody direct, even if it's a bit uncalled for. Reminds me of Raven in S2 who everybody lived for even though she was pretty rude sometimes.

I don't regard either as villains. Everything Kennedy thought she told it to someone's face and she didn't make any apologies for it. I prefer if someone is truthful about their feelings over someone who trashes you on stage and tries to kiss your ass because she still wants you to be her friend (Ginger Minj).

Acid Betty might be hostile and bitchy, it is her persona and she is being upfront about coming to the competition to win. She wasn't fake, she told to Chi Chi's face she'd throw her under the bus if they crashed and burned. I admire someone who is unapologetic about their behavior and Acid has shown enough kindness to counteract her more poisonous side. Her admitting to coming on to Kim was cute.

Acid is self-aware and unapologetic. She makes it clear what she's doing. She also puts her money where her mouth is (and her ass, and her chest) and delivers flawless looks and great challenge performances. She also doesn't attack others based on their drag, she's assertive, but not a bully.

Thorgy gave a three minute monologue about how much of an asshole Acid Betty is, followed by a scene of Betty repeatedly interrupting Chi Chi as she's trying to organize the team and undermine her position as captain. Then cut to Uncut where Bob does a skit further emphasizing just how much of an asshole Acid Betty is, but apparently this isn't enough to get the point across? And if the man was so self-aware, why did he looked so shocked when Chi Chi said Betty hurt his feelings?

The fact that these two are even compared on the plane of being a villain confuses me. Kennedy was never rude just because, she was blunt and honest. If she wasn't conscientious, many people in Conjoined Twins would've been fucked. That's not being a villain.

I don't think Acid has been rude "just because" either. She was rude to Chi Chi because Chi Chi was being a lazy leader and Acid wanted to win the challenge. Most of the "bitchyness" of Acid has just been hearsay from Bob and Thorgy's confessionals.
