Watched this way longer than I should have. Followed each cube in the 15-17 tosses. There is no way it reached a solved state from being that messed up. The fasted I've solved one is only 25 seconds, which is a long way from impressive, but there's no way dude solved a cube with no single full-colored side to solved in only 15 moves while his eyes weren't even watching it and it randomly tumbling through the air. This is either played in reverse or some CGI wizardry.

edit: I like how they stay reasonably scrambled until the cameraman tilts the camera up so the text overlay conveniently passes over the cubes as he is tossing them, then they finish really quick.

Um, yeh, aside from the more obvious fact that he doesn't manipulate his hands/fingers in any way that would actually twist the cubes to rotate the pieces. Just palms them. Not played in reverse, someone just clearly CGI'd the colours.

For reference this is someone actually doing it

Yea, now that one is easy to follow. Guy is solving left handed and hitting them one at a time.

I can't even write my name with my left hand :(

And you wonder why your parents named you Mr. Crap Factory.

They changed it in the 9th century. Used to be Mr. ShitHouse.

That's a good change. It's a good change.

Dr. Crap Factory MD to you.

You know... it's entirely possible that they person in the video is... left handed.

Nah, left handers are all drowned as witches over there.

Actually it's more natural for a right handed person to solve the cube with the left hand when it's done one-handed.

When you solve the Rubik's cube with both hands you do most moves with your right hand, so most pre-learned sequences of moves involves turning the right side of the cube.

Now imagine holding the cube with your left hand between thumb and index+middle finger - it's much easier to move the right part of the cube (with your ring/pinky) than if you were holding it with your right.

That way you don't have to relearn (mirror) all the algorithms you already know just to solve it one-handed.

Damn, I know your comment didn't ask for a serious response like this, I just thought it was an interesting point, haha. Now I almost feel like solving the Rubik's cube again..

Nah. Why would he wear the watch on right hand?

I'm left handed and wear my watch on the right.

I was being sarcastic. Most people I know that wear the watch on the right, are left handed!

Poe's law bro. Your sarcasm was seen as someone's genuine naivete. Which is typical of being sarcastic through text.

It happens that many right handed cubers use their left hand to solve cubes one handed. So maybe, but maybe not ;)

Exactly!!!! We all have our own talents! :)

I can, but it looks like first grader handwriting. Unfortunately, I'm left handed.

What can you do with your left hand then?

I can but mine looks like a third grader wrote it.

I like how he's able to do all this crazyness, but he drops one cube while trying to show the end result.

I think he dropped them because he realized nobody cared enough to watch him do it.

dropped them

I believe he dropped one on accident, and then dropped the other two too to make it look like he did so on purpose.

He admits he dropped it accidentally, he just goes ah fuck that shit and drops other two. Also I hate how no1 else gives shit while this godlike person is solving 3 cubes while juggling...

He plays it off like he meant to drop it and drops the other ones, but you can tell it wasn't on purpose.

If you read the description on YouTube you will see he fully admits it wasn't on purpose.

Honestly, my hands would probably be a little unsteady after using them with that much skill for that long too.

Hey that's Ravi! He's awesome. Pretty sure somewhere on his YouTube channel he solves a rubiks cube while juggling and also on a unicycle

But can he solve rubiks cube while juggling it while riding a flaming unicycle in a clownsuit tho?

That all? Do it on a tight rope while unicycling. Then I will be impressed. Slightly. Really though? Freaking amazing... Even without the unicycle.

How about Solving a rubik's cube and reciting 100 digits of Pi while balancing books on head
(shitty quality version on TV for doubters)

I want to see her doing that on an unicycle and juggling with the rubik cubes on fire while a bear holding a jar of nitroglycerin chase her.

I can't really tell in the second video, but in the first she doesn't really seem to be solving it and has just memorized a pattern to mix it up and then resolve it again.

[–]Axemic 6

Actually the cube looks seriously messed up after 5 turns, so he has remembered the turns. He just waits for the right cube to land in the right position in his hand and turns it. He also may have one side messed up that he doesn't show you in the video.

That is how "magic" is made, here's the vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKeLekIH840

This got even Penn & Teller confused though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwDAXC0_Bxk

Is this the Gathering of the Juggalos?

No, this is the Gathering of the Jugglers. Theyre a different group. Much more tame than the Juggalos.

That being said, you never want to go to a gathering of the Jugulars. Theres some crazy shit that happens there, man.

Watch out for a Gathering of Jaguars, too.

They aren't too bad. Lot's of talk, but they always wind up breaking down before they can accomplish anything.

You kid. There actually is a juggling team at Stanford. They even had a world record juggler for a few years. He went onto found a juggling startup I believe.

I like how the guy in the green and white shirt jumps in the way like "hey girls watch I can juggle three things too! Look at me instead of the guy solving three Rubiks cubes while juggling! Girls? Hello? Okay."

There is this slight pause when he moves the cube with his left hand because you need to exert a certain amount of pressure with your fingers, the guy in the original video doesn't do that, it's all smooth.

This is way more impressive.

I can't believe everyone around him is acting so nonchalantly

He should have got so much more attention for that. It's like no one there even remotely comprehends what he's just fucking done. God damnit I hate people.

okay, this video loook way more legit and believable lol

[–]Jerimiah [

Just watch the original video in 0.25x speed. Keep your eyes focused on any cube.

It's obviously fake. I mean, the the link on the guy's channel is http://leowestonvfx.com

Just watched it at 0.25x speed then frame by frame after downloading it

You may need to watch it again cos unfortunately he's actually manipulating the cubes.

Here's a quick album: http://imgur.com/a/So2V0

In the first image, 2 cubes have the same pattern on their faces.

edit: Here's the same patterned face on the third cube:

http://imgur.com/T3GuZmj

Looks like the only trickery going on is that he's scrambled the cube himself to be solvable easily.

As per the youtube comments :

Simon Something 22 hours ago

Yes guys it's 'somewhat' fake. He only does the same turn every single toss so he isn't actually 'solving' the cubes, I figured that out after watching it in slow motion and seeing every cube being solved in around 20 moves. World championships in solving in as few moves as possible with no time limit aren't this good.

[–]Alarid 6

Unless he just reversed the moves he had memorized for each. It's pretty easy to make it looks like a complete mess with easy to reverse moves.

This was my thought. It's probably fake, but people seem to be incorrectly assuming that, when the video starts, the cubes are in a completely randomized state and not already partially solved. To the average joe, a cube could be five (easy) moves away from being solved and still look completely jumbled.

I usually keep trying to solve it for 30 minutes, then lose my shit and go one with my life. So this is impressive, well done.

When you know the formula (either in front of you or on paper), it's pretty easy. I think after my 5 try I was at under 2:30 (which is pretty shit).

[–]staygold_pony_boy [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

5 try

You're saying after 5 attempts you could solve the entire cube in 2:30? Seriously? It took me a couple of days to memorize the algorithm for each layer and be able to solve it in around 2 minutes. I think it would take too much effort to get any faster, so that's where I stopped, but I was pretty happy to just be able to solve all 6 sides.

I'm so glad you guys debunked this, because i was starting to feel really inadequate watching that gif.

Magic trick is magical. I can solve in around 30 secs, this guy just set the cubes up ahead of time. Still impressive

Eh, he works for a vfx company. It's probably fake.

Why put a "headline" down there anyway? And why permanent? It's there for covering up.

I call BS.

The text isn't in the actual video. Someone made a gif on imgur from the original video.

Yeah, I don't know you guys. My cousin always says 'dazzle them with brilliance or baffle them with bullshit'. I feel like I just got dazzled by Cube Man's bullshit.

My initial thought went to how he was training for this type of activity. Like he would first have to be comfortable making switches on rubix cubes with one hand, then know how to catch and switch rubix cubes almost simultaneously in a juggling fashion (keeping in mind that he's solving three separate patters of cube). The cherry on top is that he was able to do it in ~20 seconds...

Highly skeptical, although it must be true because it's on the internet.

I Agree. I don;t believe it. Unless the cubes were pre-set it's impossible IMO

Thank you...I mean it makes me feel a little bit better knowing that is fake cause seriously not being able to solve this cubes sitting down in a quite environment is enough, don't need a guy who can do 3 while juggling

except it's obvious that the gif does not start when he first picks up the cubes - so we have no idea how long he's already been working on it before the gif cuts in.

There's a classic magic trick where magicians make 3 faces look scrambled and 3 faces look solved. Then you can 'solve' the cube by tossing it in air :D

When I followed one cube with my eyes, it seems to magically go from scrambled to nearly complete in an instant. I'm guessing the footage was altered.

I'm always surprised when something so obviously fake reaches the front page. Because, essentially, we're just watching a guy do some above-average but extremely basic juggling, plus a special effect.

I've seen a homemade shelf made if plywood and 2x4 reach the front page before. Don't underestimate the average redditor's lack of talent. Especially in this hyper specialized society.

[–]down--up [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

Hyper specialised is such a good way of putting it. My dad is so amazing at making and fixing practically everything, but I spend all my time in my career getting super good at one thing. I always felt guilty about my lack of "generic skills" but this kind of puts it in context. Thanks.

try to learn mills mess and then come back.

Mod of /r/juggling here:

Mills mess is typically one of the first 5-10 patterns you learn, so I would agree that it's fairly basic. People with strong sports backgrounds can go from never having juggled to juggling a shaky Mills in a few practice sessions.

Mills mess is tough. took me a good long while to learn.

Yeah, the first 3 tosses are easy to learn, but when you start going back the other way gets confusing. When you break it down into the two patterns, it becomes a lot easier.

It's so interesting to me how one pattern can be looked at so differently. Like for the first three tosses I actually start with a reverse cascade to get into the pattern. I don't know if other people do this or not, but that's what works for me. Then I look at it as two interchanging patterns (Windmill and I guess reverse windmill?).

He could have been simply scrambling them as he was juggling them and played the video in reverse which is a lot less impressive

He appears to be catching at the end rather than tossing, so that's rather unlikely.
