Its definitely a strange one - can't even say its because we lack pace when we have Welbeck, Vardy, Sterling and Sturridge. Throw Antonio in there on current form and see how he handles a couple of friendlies.

Rooney has had a very good record in the last year or so with England though. No reason why he should be dropped, especially considering his experience too.

I'd for sure have him in there and starting if he was fully fit - squad is short of winners with only Smalling, Cahill and Hart winning anything of note in their careers.

Whatever you think of his performances for United, Rooney has played far better for England over the last year or so. He has consistently been England's best player for a while now.

Estonia are alright, and have been improving a lot over the last decade. I don't know why you used them as an example when you could have used San Marino.

I actually just looked it up and Jones has been fit for 656 mins of football this season out of a possible total of 4140 mins.

So Jones has been fit for 15% of the season.

That's ridiculous.

I've defended him so many times but there's only so long you can do it for. I was hoping so much for a Smalling/Jones partnership for years to come but it's time we just accept that he needs to go. He's had make or break years for 3 years now. Fergie was wrong to choose him over Varane.

Only reason Jones ever gets a call up is because he plays for us. If he was a West Ham/Newcastle player he wouldn't get anywhere near the England team.

Very true, however give it 5 years and clear out some of the deadwood and bring in new talent - wilshere, Barkley, Ali, Kane, Shaw, smelling will peak around then, stones, sterling + others

Could be a solid team IMO.

We have some good players (Clyne, Smalling, Hart, Butland, Alli, Dier, Barkley, Sterling, Sturridge, Kane) but you're right that the rest are fairly average.

Even some of the ones I mentioned can be heavily criticised for large parts of their game but hopefully they develop properly for the future.

Models himself after Scholes. Sets the tempo in the midfield, perhaps his defining attribute is spraying long balls to stretch the game for Vardy to run on to. He's very good.

His midfield partner Kante handles tackling and interception duties so well that there isn't much need for Drinkwater to do so. Just look at the man's stats:

116 interceptions

86 tackles won

49 clearances

35 take-ons

24 chances created

Why not Carrick? He's THE player at United. I go crazy every time he's in the line up. His passing success is like 99.995%
