Hernandez:

clinical finisher, does the business time and time again

Yes, he suits their system. He doesn't suit Van Gaal's system.

all round play is very good. Seemed willing to stay as a back up (correct me if I am wrong).

Consider yourself corrected. He wanted more playing time, and his all-round play is lacking.

Kagawa:

I read somewhere that he didn't fit in to the way we play but I'm not so sure. Wonderful technical player and with Mata playing on the right hand side a lot this season, wouldn't Kagawa have been perfect behind the striker?

Hindsight is 20/20. He had a disappointing start to his United career. A mixture of being played out of position and not being able to adapt to the Premiership. It took a while before he found his feet again at Dortmund.

Nani:

I know some aren't fans and perhaps he hasn't lived up to his potential but as an impact player surely the guy could have done a job. Was it a "philosophy" decision?

High wages, long contract and you never knew what Nani you would get. He hadn't played consistently well for three seasons when we sold him.

Fletcher and Evans:

I just can't work out why either of these left the club. In the centre we have basti, carrick and morgan - good players yes but certainly leaves us exposed. Basti can just about do 90 mins, Carrick getting that way as well. Why then let Fletcher go? Same for Evans, I just dont understand from a squad point of view why?!

Evans was dreadful under Van Gaal, and Fletcher asked to leave.

Many thanks for the reply.

How doesn't Hernadez fit in? Is it a case of LVG wanting more all round play from his striker?

Kagawa, yes didn't fit in and as you say was played out of position. That said, I'm surprised he wasn't kept on and played in that central attacking midfielder role.

Nani. Yes, massively inconsistent and I guess I'm looking at my own point of view here. Whilst we've seemed lacking going forward he seems to be the kind of player that might just do something at times!

Evans, yes I get that - but better than nothing? Didn't know Fletcher asked to leave!

Thanks again, brilliant!

Yes.

10s: Rooney, Mata, Adnan, Pereira, Fellaini, Lingard.

Sure, whenever the planets align.

Evans, yes I get that - but better than nothing?

Jones looked capable back then.

Well that I can understand about his play, but as an out and out striker would have been ideal to have been kept on. That said, if he wanted more playing time...

Number 10's, Rooney has been up front, Mata on the right and I would suggest that Kagawa is better than the others in that position.

Haha, fair point on Nani :-)

Yes I forget about Jones, even then leaves us short. I do wonder if he banked on getting a couple of other players, a CB, another striker that never came off?

To be fair, Hernandez looked lost at that point. No one could have foreseen the Chicharitossance.

I would suggest that Kagawa is better than the others in that position.

He didn't looked any better than them the times he played as #10 for us. Mata on the other hand had already proven himself a top #10 in England.

I do wonder if he banked on getting a couple of other players, a CB, another striker that never came off?

He came up with this ridiculous idea of playing Fellaini as a striker this season. As for CB, we replaced Evans with Rojo. LVG likes versatile players who can fill a lot of positions.

I think the problem is that when we look back at these players we remember the good things about them and about their play, but when we were sat watching them we all wanted them gone.

As to why LvG got rid of them, they were seen as dead weight at the time and hindsight is 20/20.

My opinion: Fletcher and Evans because they weren't good enough, Nani becuase he is massively inconsistent which is why he's in Turkey and not some better league, Hernandez because we couldn't offer him the first team football he wanted, Kagawa because we had a dozen players capable of playing #10

People don't half jump on the bandwagon... They were glad when he got rid of all the deadwood and now they want the deadwood back. Any chance just to have a go at van Gaal is absurd. I mean people saying Hernandez does the business time and time again, no he didn't. Kagawa isn't even doing that well at Dortmund this time around, just a couple of games here and there.

No I tried to make it clear I wasn't having a dig at LVG, just was interested to find out the reasoning behind some players leaving.

[–]idunlikeu 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

The problem wasn't that we let those players go, the problem was that we hardly replaced them with better players.

I don't like the assumption he allowed them to go - we don't know how many refused to stay and demanded moves. Or lay the blame for not signing at his feet too. Could be the board? We slashed the wage bill. Was that a board directive?

We mismanaged the window, but we can't 100% for sure say who was responsible for it.

Good point and I honestly couldnt have seen Fletcher asking to leave but as another poster pointed out, he did.

Hernandez was probably my favourite Man Utd player after Vidic and I still love him. I was known as Chicharito in a fish market that I mostly visited to buy fish (obviously, fish) because of my uncanny resemblance to him and my hairstyle matching him too.

But he did not set the world on fire even with immense potential. He did not get playing time as well. I was immensely happy for the lad and I'm still very happy to see him leave and perform brilliantly for Leverkusen. He was another player with Herrera-esque passion and we loved him. Even today, this subreddit recognizes that Herrera will one day (soon, actually) be shipped out in case we acquire a brilliant CM. So, we could very well see history repeating itself and I have no regrets about losing Hernandez, only beautiful memories of him scuffing his shot and still scoring his first goal for us and his performance against Chelsea when we were down by 2 or 3 goals in the first half.
