I had a call with a German company a week ago. I had to press 4 for English. FOUR! I could understand pressing 2 I mean it is Germany here, and I don't begrudge a little nationalism, but Four? Mother fucker we didn't kick your ass twice to press 4 for English!
Edit: Well shit this got brigaded, I was +10 like an hour ago. It's also a joke people, cool your shit. I'm not actually mad about having to hit 4 for English. God damned busy bodies.

Oh, yeah, in WW1 the USA showed up in 1917. That's like watching a boxing match then joining in the tenth round to hit one of them in the back of the head to claim you're a champion.

The US actually was the deciding factor in WWI. Russia had already surrendered and the german spring offensive was semi-sucessfull, but the US pushed them back.
Germany was on its last legs, with a limited amount of fighting fit men left. All her allies were feckless or defeated.
France and Britain still had their empires to draw from.
The USA had as near as matters no impact on the actual outcome of WW1. Just made Germany lose hope quicker and give up. They maybe shortened the war by a year or so, but they did not win it.
Germany had been well and truly fucked by Britain/France before America ever joined.

Germany just moved thousands of men from Russia to the western front. France and the UK were not "winning" without the US. They could not defeat half of the german army, what makes you think they could defeat both halves?
The British blockade on Germany was starving the country to death. They didn't have much fight left in them.
Plus the Spring Offensive was won (as in succesfully halted) by France/Britain, and the US wasn't involved in that. A stalemate after one of the biggest pushes the Germans could muster was essentially defeat.
The US was involved in stopping the spring offensive. The entire strategy of germany was to beat France before the US steps in. They could not do it in time, but they could have done it in 2 or 3 years.

You mean the war Europe started because of the same kind of shit the US declared independence to get away from? Why was that our responsibility again?
ww1 started because other european power felt threatened by the german austrian blog and used serbia as an excuse for war.
What? You should read about either the reasons for the colonies to become independent or about the causes of WWI because clearly anyone that thinks that those are identical has a poor grasp on history.

To be fair Russians fucked them deeper and harder.

Russians had a one front war. Not 3 separated by thousands of miles like most of the others.
Please tell me you aren't actually trying to say Russia getting fucking invaded was somehow easier than what the US was doing...
The US had transport by ship tens of thousands of troops, personnel, and equipment all while fighting the Japaneses for thousands o miles just to get to the battlegrounds of the pacific. Simultaneously doing the same thing to invade Northern Africa AND building THOUSANDS of miles of roads through Canada just to get to the fight up in the fight on AMERICAN soil (Aleutian Islands). All this while rebuilding not only your own army, navy, and air force from almost nothing. And while all this is going on we also had to provide tanks, Airplanes, Trucks, Ships, Trains, Weapons, Equipment and millions of tons of supplies to various countries all over the world; INCLUDING the damn commies. All this on a whim with little to no warning that we would be involved in the war.
On the other side. Russia had more then TWO YEARS to create an war machine and the logistics to support it while it helped Hitler wage war against the Baltic States. And when Hitler did turn against Russia, Russia was only fighting on its own soil with VAST amounts of help from The Allies.

Being invaded is way better because it saves you the commute. If you're really lucky, you might not even have to leave the house!
Still, Russia did more against Nazi Germany than the Rest of the Allies combined.
The rest of the Allies combined? That's a bit of a stretch.
germany had to pull of troops fromthe westfront and put them the ostfront because the russians were taking ground way faster.
It's true though, the eastern front alone is the largest conflict in human history.
Yes it is. As is saying USA freed Europe from the Nazis, as is saying US is back 2 back WW champs, as are many things.
Have heard of Stalingrad by any chance?
The Soviet Red Army liberated about half of Europe's territory, which comprise 16 modern European countries. Allied forces liberated nine countries, while six more were freed by the Soviets and the Allies together. The combined population of the territories, in which the Red Army beat back Hitler's forces, was about 120 million people.
The Red Army also had to face the lion's share of Nazi forces on the Eastern Front - about five million soldiers. The vast majority of Hitler's military hardware was also concentrated in the East: 5,400 artillery pieces, 54,600 mortars and over 3,000 warplanes. Combined, it amounted to three-fourths of the heavy weapons at Hitler's disposal. By the end of the war, the Soviets had destroyed over 70 percent of their enemy’s forces.
The Eastern Front was also the widest, spanning four to six thousand kilometers, which is four times more than the North African, Italian and Western European frontlines combined. It was also the hottest, seeing 1,320 days of combat compared to North Africa's 309 and Italy's 49.
The Russians also had 9 million military deaths against NAZI Germany, like 5 times the number of Americans that have ever died in war.
We had it really bad in Japan. But the Russians did the bulk of the work against Germany. There are some battles that would be called entire wars if it wasn't for the context of WWII.

Everyone seems to forget that the Russians were on Hitler's side. They were the bad guys. It wasn't until Hitler launched a sneak attack that things changed.
not realy hitler and stalin mostly cooperated out of need not because they loved each other. hintler was anti-comunism and stalin knew it he needed time to finish the red army and purge it.
not because they loved each other.
Since when does getting along have anything to do with being allies? It doesn't change the fact that they were allies, and the USSR would have been happy sitting the war out until both side knocked themselves senseless.
sure. but not going to war doesnt mean supporting each other either.

Once I pressed 4 accidentally instead of 1 for a firm that had French at #4. The girl answering me had a heavy Slavic accent.
Énglish is less relevant than French, Danish or Turkish in day-to-day German business life, so there is that.
And you didn't kick our ass twice. You joined WW1 late enough to let others weaken the Enemy first, and WW2 almost all the heavy lifting was done by the russians.
I'm not convinced that is true, maybe if we are talking local stores, however a lot of business is international nowadays, especially in Europe. and English is the go to language to deal with any international relations.
IDK I work for a big world wide operating pump manufacturer, and most of our exports go to our neighboring states. Ofc english is still important, though.

It's a joke, I guess I wouldn't expect a German to understand that either.

As a German it gets increasingly hard to distinguish comments made as a joke from sincere comments, especially on topics regarding migrant crisis and politics in general, so sorry :)
