Jiffy Lube is total shit. They have predatory practices and the worst, most inexperienced mechanics in the business. You would have to be pretty naive about the auto industry to defend them.
[–]moldy_cake 6ポイント7ポイント8ポイント 5時間前 (4子コメント)
I'm not defending them. I'm just a guy who drives a car to and from work. The only thing I know about my car is when it's not running properly. So yes, i am naive about the auto industry. I'm also naive about grocery stores. I'm naive about a doctor's office. I'm naive about a lot of things because I don't think I have to be an expert in any given field to use someone else's product, ask for someone else's service, or buy anyone else's goods.

Wow you're just the worst kind of person then. People like you are the reason there are safety warnings everywhere on everything. Just because you're too lazy to educate yourself doesn't mean the world needs to compensate for you, and you don't have the right be self-righteous about being willfully ignorant.
Not sure what point you were trying to make with all that.

What a ridiculous comment. If /u/moldy_cake said they attempt repairs themself without any knowledge or research, your comment about safety warnings might make sense. But saying they're 'the worst kind of person' for expecting a seemingly professional business to be able to carry out a task without damaging a car? Pull your head out of your arse mate.

You're just ignorant.
My point is, i put trust in humanity to do what they're supposed to do. If you're a car mechanic, i expect you to know your stuff. If you're a meat inspector, i expect you to know your stuff.
So yeah, call me what you will. I'm not the one up on a high horse calling people names. I do my job and I do my job well, I just so happen to expect people to do the same in return.

First, your claim is that you are willfully ignorant because you trust people who do actually know what they're doing. I tell you, as a mechanic, something I do know a bit about, and you know nothing about, and you want to argue?
Boy, you are one weird mix of hypocrisy and ignorance.

You would have to be pretty naive about the auto industry to think every Jiffy Lube is total shit and they all have predatory practices. You sound foolish saying this and are just jumping on the typical reddit bandwagon of "we like Bernie, hate cops, hate Jiffy Lube, love Jennifer Lawrence"

They literally have a corporate mandate to try to upsell every customer on air filters, for instance, whether or not they need to be replaced. Where you could go to the store and buy one for 10 (assuming you even needed it) they will charge you 30, plus labor.
I'm a college educated Auto Technician with 4 ASEs, I'm a state inspector, I have years of industry experience, and I even take a car there once every few months because my sister insists on it and it's the same story at every single one, every single time (but hey, her car, her money).
I'm educated and informed on THIS particular topic. You sound foolish and you have nothing other than lip to back yourself up. You're being "that guy".
Check out /r/justrolledintotheshop for hundreds of examples of Jiffy Lube fuckery, because I'm not going to educate your naive ass any more on it.

You literally are only making yourself sound more like a fool. There is no corporate mandate to sell unneeded services or parts. At all. You are a liar who makes things up if you think "corporate" said that.
They don't charge labor on air filters, there is a markup, but it's often the same price as Autozone...you know why? Because Autozone buys them for $5 and marks them up to $12.99 and so does Jiffy Lube, except at Jiffy Lube you don't have to stick it in there yourself. There might be $1-2 difference tops. You can beat both of those places online obviously, but if you don't understand why that is, then I might have to explain how businesses work to you.
I'm a college educated, former Jiffy Lube employee (7 years), where my parents own 15 of them...so I'm most likely more educated than you on their practices.
I've worked at 5 different stores under 2 different owners (my parents and their JLube competitor) and there are DEFINITELY some idiots there and definitely some mistakes are made...but you are completely ignoring the volume they do compared to a mechanic-shop and how the % of issues is probably on-par or better than those shops.
And ownership makes a huge difference. My parents pay high wages, so there is very little employee turnover, while the other guy paid closer to minimum wage and people were in/out of there. I only worked at his stores because they were the ones close to my college.
I never tried to sell anyone anything they didn't need, nor did anyone at my parents stores.
At the other guy's stores, the workers definitely did not care about their job, have pride in their work, etc. They would also try and push things more to get the average ticket price up. They didn't directly try and screw anyone, but if some part/fluid had some wear on it they'd push it, even if it wasn't needed until the next service.
This brings me back to my point, that not every one is total shit, and they definitely don't have predatory practices. The worst you may get, even from a bad one, is them trying to sell an air filter or if a fluid isn't new'ish they'll try and sell a flush.

Seriously? You just got schooled by /u/JATARC, student humble thyself.
Sit down, shut up, listen, and take the good lesson they're giving you.

Ah there it is, you're just a shill! I knew something was up.
[–]AlexHimself 0ポイント1ポイント2ポイント 1時間前 (5子コメント)
I work in software, there is no shill. I just know there are good stores and bad ones, but a few bad experiences shouldn't make you an "expert" on every location. And they do huge volume, so the thousands of good experiences are ignored, but a couple bad ones are repeated for generations to family members and told as stories around camp fires.
Oh and the OP even said he doesn't know if it was a JLube or not...but this event somehow is now burned into everyone's brain as a Jiffy Lube experience that they're matter-of-fact on.
[–]JATARC 0ポイント1ポイント2ポイント 1時間前 (4子コメント)
You are absolutely shillin' it with these responses.

This means you know I'm right

You're a Jiffy Lube shill, you're not even a real mechanic. Quit your bullshit, son.
[–]AlexHimself -1ポイント0ポイント1ポイント 56分前 (1子コメント)
You know I'm right because you're argument is now an ad hominem...take some time to educate yourself kiddo
