What a horrible photographer.

Edit: It's just my opinion. Geez... Art is subjective. And I think this person is not a very good photographer. Get over it.

Funny, you feel the need to express your opinion in the form of a critique but get offended when anyone else expresses their opinion in the form of a downvote.

What makes your opinion more valid than anyone else's?

The same reason my opinion is more important than all of yours

IT'S F**KING MINE

Honest question: Why do you think that?

The photos are extremely generic. Taking highly saturated pictures of abandoned building is like lazy work for a first year art student. The shots are badly framed and the overuse of HDR makes everything worse.

The photos are interesting though. They don't have to do anything special to capture interesting photos. It's the content that makes these photos cool, not the technicalities.

agreed, the pictures are fine. photo snobs

Exactly this. There's something about photography comments on this site which usually come across as awfull. 'Shitty HDR' and all of that petty bullshit. If someone takes a photo and likes it good for them. If they ask for advice then bring it on but otherwise fuck off troll photo nerds.

I am not saying they are horrible, but the scenery is interesting, not the photos themselves. There is a difference.

Yeah but the photo would be well boring without any scenery at all.

[–]Hugh_Jass_Clouds 0ポイント1ポイント  (5子コメント)

The content is over done. I look over this guy's entire "portfolio" of online images, and not one of the was interesting enough to model in 3D for fun. It is all wide angle generic cookie cuter bull shit. I am by no means a photo snob, but my god how many look at what I explored photos can you take and still try to pass it off as original? You want to show artistic ability? Photograph anything else but abandoned buildings and theme parks.

Whoosh

That's the sound of what I said going over your head. How do you know he was trying to be artistic? These abandoned buildings and places were interesting and captivating, not the technicalities and artisticness (or lack thereof).

[–]Hugh_Jass_Clouds [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

IF you add HDR you are attempting to be artistic. If these were being posted 5 to 10 years ago they would have been mediocre at best.

So what non generic thing should he take photos of? Nature? Animals? People? Space?

The "Urban Explorer" photo is just over done. Add some sort of flair to it beyond HDR to get a better result. Time lapse is a great way to do that. Extended exposure photography of anything (including urban exploration photos) can add a level of depth beyond HDR effects. Light streaks due to extended exposure or forced with flashlights, glow sticks, or even Poi can change the over all effect of the photo. What his guy does is point and shot photography with 0 skill involved.

Do you have any resources where I might learn how to apply the techniques you're talking about to my photography?

I am an amateur photographer trying to learn as much as I can.

No upside down cross-chasm pulley system with vintage Polaroids. 0/10

I'm also struggling to find the "horrible" in this photos. I work with photography/photographers as a daily job since young, which pretty much makes me see "the worst" and "the best" in a daily basis. It's all subjective, but I find this shots nice, with nothing special to add. Also, maybe a couple shots were saturated, not more, and there isn't any visible HDR, expect maybe for the shot in the thumbnail. That comment also lacks the fact that post-processing exists.

Yeah. Too often he simply goes for the balanced, mirror-image shot and at times he seems to go out of his way looking for that viewpoint. The bank of generators is a rare exception.

The photos are not great, but they certainly aren't "horrible." Tone down the hyperbole a bit and save that adjective for something truly awful, otherwise that word loses its meaning.

It's just my opinion. They look like stock photos.

[–]just_a_thought4U 6ポイント7ポイント  (0子コメント)

People pay money for stock photos.

Soooo...you're saying they look like professional photos?

okay you know people can make a lot of money from stock photos, right?

The photos are extremely generic.

People seem to like them though. I bet those who do are uncultured dogs, unlike you. I've bookmarked your username so that in the future, if I see art I like, I can ping you to ask if I should like it or not.

"What a horrible photographer" doesn't sound like it's leaving any room for subjectivity.

Kinda strange to make an objective statement ("what a terrible photographer") and then try to defend yourself by saying "Art is subjective".

Either stand by what you said or don't, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

That isn't an objective statement

Yes it is. "What a terrible photographer" is another way of saying "that photographer is terrible" which is an objective statement. If he had been speaking subjectively he would've said "I think this photographer is terrible" or something similar.

Dude, don't worry I agree with you. I don't find his style particularly enjoyable. Good for you for not being apart of the masses. Plus, isn't anyone else getting sick of the "oh look abandoned shit. I'll be internet famous if I take a creepy picture if it through a fish eye lens!"

if it's your opinion, say so. Don't objectively say his photos are shit, because, you want to speak objectively? they aren't, his skill is tremendous. If you don't like them, say that you don't like them.
