Another Yomiuri Pitcher Involved in Baseball Betting
Tokyo, March 8 (Jiji Press)--Another Yomiuri Giants pitcher has been found to have bet on baseball, Hiroshi Kubo, president of the Japanese professional baseball club, said Tuesday.
The club will file a complaint against Kyosuke Takagi, 26, with Nippon Professional Baseball Commissioner Katsuhiko Kumazaki, Kubo told a press conference.
The Giants said supreme adviser Tsuneo Watanabe, 89, owner Kojiro Shiraishi, 69, and Chairman Tsunekazu Momoi, 69, will step down to take responsibility. Kubo will stay in the post to handle the matter.
Takagi became the fourth Giants pitcher to have been involved in baseball betting. In November, Satoshi Fukuda, Shoki Kasahara and Ryuya Matsumoto were disqualified indefinitely from professional baseball for their involvement. The club was fined 10 million yen at the time.
Kumazaki said in a statement that it is very regrettable that a new scandal came to light just before the opening of a new season. He said he deeply apologizes to fans and people in the baseball world.
