I'm from Ireland, this is /r/Ireland. I dont think you know what socialism is. Socialism means that the means of production are owned by the workers, that wealth is redistributed from rich to poor and that economic equality comes first. Ireland has a capitalist economic system.

We have a mixed economy in that the government does spend on things like education, healthcare and social welfare. But that isn't socialism, this is the general trend through the world's capitalist countries. We have never had a left wing government and are not socialists. Even Bismarck's Germany had social welfare and that conservative empire would never be described as socialist.
