politics 内の Positive_pressure によるリンク Bernie Sanders: I do not believe in trickle-down economics

[–]mamatree 2353ポイント2354ポイント  (0子コメント)

As someone who was raised in a conservative household and who went off to college, while many of my friends went into the military or to jail over non violent drug offenses, i have seen first hand the anti-inellectual sentiment that has been resonating in our mainstream media for YEARS now.

It goes beyond anti-intellectualism, it is anti-education. There are people who not only believe that education isn't important, but that Universities and higher education is simply a euphemism for liberal brainwashing centers.

Education has literally become a partisan political issue. Like many anti-intellectual movements throughout history, this one has a large correlation with religious communities that rely on organized faith, and their teachings often conflict with scientific findings.

Now, while this normally would apply only to issues such as climate change or the age of the earth, (i.e. hard science facts) etc. , because the anti-education sentiment is so large in conservative communities, the skepticism carries over to other issues, such as economic policy.

So who are conservative blue collar workers to question their political leaders (who for the most part all did attend 4 year universities, often at prestigious institutions) when they are told that trickle down economic theory works?

I've seen some of my conservative friends who were not even alive when Ronald Reagan was president holding him in high regard, as the savior of the conservative movement. They can't tell me why. It's a strange cultural myth we have created and perpetuated for many decades now.

The answer, today, for those frustrated with "elitism" seems to be to elect more and more uneducated people. I just had a conversation yesterday with a friend who is voting for Trump because he is not a lawyer and, he argues, we haven't had a non lawyer president SINCE Ronald Reagan who was the last great president we had before....

Anyway... To sum it up as a TL;DR There is a large partisan anti-education, anti-intellectual bent, and many people who believe in trickle down economics are buying that line in the same package as much of their faith. There is no amount of reason or proving them wrong with facts that will help. Faith seems to trump reason, as it were.

At least two more protesters were led off by security, who apparently carried "Black Lives Matter" signs.

"All lives matter," Trump said as the crowd booed those being led out. "We have to love everybody."

What a twisted rhetoric. Love is not booing activists and minorities and ejecting protesters. This is fascist doublespeak.

The way she phrased it was rhetorically beautiful. What she implied in respose to the question is that "everybody else is doing it."

"Everybody else is doing it" is good enough of an answer for a paradigm in which corruption is accepted as the norm. For the first time in my life, I feel like people around me are ready to end that paradigm and embrace transparency in government, especially where it regards to conflict of interest.

politics 内の soltunds によるリンク Sanders outlined a vision for U.S. conduct on the global stage, arguing that America is at its best when it engages with the rest of the world on an equal footing, and not on the basis of brute force.

I agree with your edit and want to point out that there is a huge difference between being a "leader" and being "the boss."

The boss tells people what to do. They do what they want to do with no concern to others who they feel as inferior or subordinate. The Boss uses force.

The leader co-creates a plan at the helm of a team. They respect their team as equals rather than subjects. The Leader uses inspiration.

I'm ready to elect a leader for America.

[–]mamatree 2762ポイント2763ポイント  (0子コメント)

The funny thing is that the content of the speeches is almost irrelevant at this point. It is clear that there is material that Hillary find damaging to her campaign or she would proudly release them.

At this point she has already shot herself in the foot. In both feet. With one remark:

Well, let me say this. I'm happy to release anything I have when everybody else does the same, because every other candidate in this race has given speeches to private groups, including Senator Sanders.

Hillary, we are looking to elect a leader for this country. a leader does not stand aside until "everybody else" acts. A leader acts first. A leader does not point fingers. A leader takes personal responsibility for his or her own actions.

Her attempt at dragging down Bernie Sanders with her reminded me of when a child gets caught helping steal cookies froma cookie jar with a second child (Wall Street), but is clever enough to divert attention to a third child; except the third child (Bernie) was given a cookie, a much smaller cookie, and gave their cookie to somebody who didn't get a cookie at all (Charity). And by the time we've processed all of this we are supposed to forget that the first child is still helping steal the cookies.

“Bernie Sanders is closing the Democratic primary gap and is stronger than Hillary Clinton in the general election,” David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, said in a statement.

The issue here is that Hillary and Trump have had massive media exposure for much of the last few decades, whereas nearly no one, including myself, has heard of Bernie Sanders until this last year.

The difference between Clinton and Trump is minimal. They are similar ideologically, and both are celebrity personalities, but Trump is honest with his feelings (ala Cowboy Bush "I'm the decider") and Clinton is much more prone to pandering to different interest groups in an older style of political campaigning, apt for an archaic paradigm which supports her and which we are seeking to end.

Bernie Sanders will gain more recognition, especially if he wins the democratic nomination. If he does not, I understand where the Democratic party will be in trouble because I will definitely not be voting for Hillary Clinton, even if she is the nominee. I do not trust her and it has nothing to do with anyone else's opinion. I just do not trust her as a career politician. Her record speaks for itself.

As for Joe Biden, no thanks.

I still only own the first one. I'll probably still play it. :)

edit:

I want to explain why: I use this subreddit for a reason. I never pay full price for a game. EVER. But I still want to support those developers whose games I enjoy. The game will eventually go on sale. I personally never buy if a price is not at least 50% off. I love to practice my patience and wait for winter sales when prices get to be as high as 80% off. It's like digital tantra.

the new starcraft game will eventually go on sale. until then I, and many others like me, will continue to play the older games we already have.
