Current state of MasterChan: >good: We are fully running from 2 computers. I can easily buy more as needed and set it up real quickly now that I've learned that. >bad: Everything I learned regarding performance in the past 2 years running MasterChan in a single computer does not apply to running it on multiple. But at least now that everything is done, I can focus on solving the issues. >good: I can stack hard drives as they get full. No more deleting old threads to free up space. >bad: the software that shares media between all computers is being slow as fug >good: a very reliable system that shares the database (all text data like posts) with all computers, not prone to errors and with more powerful scaling than most forums and chans are probably using. The database is our performance bottleneck and of every website, and adding new computers immediately lightens the load and allows more users. >very, very bad: it's a time bomb, most likely due to a bug. It has a maximum connections allowed that isn't clearing up. Once it hits that limit somehow (usually within 24h), only a full server reboot fixes it. >bad: I can't get the two computers to use all their CPU power. The database is actually running a little slower than before. >good: two computers are serving the pages. If you look to your top left, some of you will see "masterchan" and some will see "masterchan 2". This is also easy to setup now with everything above to allow more users. >bad: caching, the process that stores things like posts in RAM memory so you get very fast page loading (as opposed to being much slower when it has to ask the database for the posts) does not work on masterchan 2. I can't find a reliable way to do that yet, and I will probably turn off masterchan 2 after we test it for a while, because it always connects to the database. The only software around that seems to spread cache to all computers, making us really fast and using 10x,50x less computers seems to be from facebook
