We have appointed a law and a practice for every one of you. Had God willed, He would have made you a single community, but He wanted to test you regarding what has come to you. So compete with each other in doing good. Every one of you will return to God and He will inform you regarding the things about which you differed.” (Surat al-Ma’ida, 48)"

But that's contradicted by:

"Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbelief) their past will be forgiven... And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world ]. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do" 8:38-39.

So if we're all tested by the good we do, why are disbelievers killed?

"It may be that Allah will bring about love between you and those of them with whom you are now at enmity... Allah forbids you not respecting those who have not fought against you on account of your religion, and who have not driven you out from your homes, that you be kind to them and deal equitably with them; surely, Allah loves those who are equitable." - Holy Qur'an, 60:8-9

Yet doesn't the Koran also class non-believers as aggressors? Which is why the quote I forget which passage, "You may wage war in the name of Allah but not as the aggressor, for Allah does not love aggressors". So you can skit passed murder of non-believers because they're aggressors by not believing.

I'm in no way protecting Islam. I'm just saying there are verses that promote peace and compassion in it, just like there are verses that promotes violence.

Doesn't matter when they're contradicted and the message as a whole is violent.
