My point is I don't really trust 'labor reps'. I am not convinced unions have the interest or workers at heart.

Labor economists should be consulted yeah, but generally that isn't meant when people say labor reps.

Honestly, no idea. I am sure he knows that businesses are consulted - he presided over minimum wage increases as Ohio governor, which is why the question came up - but he probably needed a pro-business twang to his answer.

That being said, Kasich actually answered policy questions, which means everything he said was ignored.

And earlier today, Mitt Romney said that Trump wants a 35% tariff on goods imported from China.

I'm not an economist, or very educated in economics at all, which is why I'm asking here and hope to get a good answer, but everything that I have read on the subject suggests that tariffs are a bad idea. Is there any justification for these policies, or is it simply bad economics?

So why don't we have a longer time frame? Maybe there's a J curve effect.

I welcome empirical evidence on vouchers - we need it - but one year is really limited.

Fair Enough, but what did you think about the paper's proposed explanation for the negative effects (i.e that "the [voucher program] may attract private schools struggling to maintain enrollment"). I thought that was interesting since the usual anti voucher argument is that private schools only select high quality students.

I get that, the general reaction from the audience to the suggestion seemed positive and I saw a few FB posts from friends and family who supported the idea of bringing textile jobs back to the US. That's kind of what I'm questioning, I can understand someone being concerned about the effect free trade can have on local industry but I do not get why someone would want to bring textile manufacturing back.
