i mean, if they make an adult size bot, you could dress it up to look like the girl in a horror movie who is trying to crawl away from the maniac.

[–]ThousandFingerMan 8ポイント9ポイント  (3子コメント)

or they could make it look like that creepy dead girl from The Ring.

we'd need to get audio hooked up in them. to make the sound of the girl from the grudge. that "uuuuuuuuuuuuugh" sound

and have another record a victim yelling for help and pleading with the maniac for their life.

I remember scaring my friends shitless by making that noise in the pitch dark after we watched that movie. Good times.

Nooo...,You stop it🤐.

Yeah, I guess that's another attempt to design a robot in a way that will make people feel empathy for it. I'm someone for whom the uncanny valley is very broad and deep, and I'd prefer it to have a less baby-like head.

I took a university course about the philosophy of robotics, and learned about one such attempt to make a "cute" robot in the shape of, supposedly, an ape, to explore how people interact emotionally with robots. This was the result.

That's not why it's designed that way. They had one of these at my university Robotics department and it's really quite interesting. It's designed to mimick a baby because it's intended to be used to study artificial intelligence and cognitive computing, which is really all about neurology.

Babies are extremely important to neurology. They start with no real knowledge of how to interact with their own limbs and by firing off random neurons and witnessing the result of their own limbs they gradually figure out how to move which limbs and what neuron patterns result in what behaviour. This sort of limb mapping feature of our brains is also the reason that cybernetic limbs can work at all.

Through machines that mimic a child's environment we are developing cognitive computers that emulate how our neurons work. These sorts of experiments are leading us to understand neurology and early human neural development better, as well as how to emulate this to achieve artificially intelligent machines that can learn and adapt.

tl;dr no-one programmed the baby robot to crawl on the floor, it figured it out on it's own.

Thanks, very interesting!

Was looking for this comment, it's not a shitty robot at all, it will probably look like a shitty robot in 10-20years like retro futuristic robots from early sci-fi movies do now. It does have a fairly important scientific role, at least for the while. I think nova had an episode on these and hyper realistic ones in Japan that mimic humans etc. Explain it a bit more in depth.

Maybe this subreddit is populated with shitty bots, and that why there are continually posts of non shitty robots... /r/shittyconspiracy.

Is it… on a leash?

Well... that's fucking unsettling.

Just put a fleshlight in it and swap the face to Mugi's and you'll be rolling in dough.

Source? Why does this exist?

Because Miskatonic U has a robotics club.

Babies. Why's it always gotta be babies

WHY ROBOT BABIES?

I dont know the complacent look in his eyes just makes it kinda funny

I always wanted a Train spotting robot!
