You are running a kernel-touching program not fully compatible.

[–]SethDusek5 -2ポイント-1ポイント  (10子コメント)

That's almost definitely not running as administrator. Nice OS

[–]Kraz-o-Wisp 1ポイント2ポイント  (9子コメント)

What happened to not following me around on stuff not related to linux?.

[–]SethDusek5 -3ポイント-2ポイント  (8子コメント)

What happened to not justifying windows every step of the way even when it's completely ridiculous? I.e. an unprivileged app crashing the whole goddamn OS?

[–]Kraz-o-Wisp 1ポイント2ポイント  (7子コメント)

If it's crashing the OS, it's privileged.

But at the end of the day if the alternatives were good, people would seek them for reasons other than just sticking it to le man.

Good software is self-evident. You don't have to indoctrinate people to use it by sacrificing half they have known their entire lives.

And as a cherry on the cake, the credibility of the linux legion basically went straight to the negatives thanks to the conspiracy theories.

So much for the "superior" OS.

Just let it stay on the server market, where it belongs.

Because a game running as admin makes sense. Right?

But at the end of the day if the alternatives were good, people would seek them for reasons other than just sticking it to le man.

The only reason most people use windows is not because they like it, because they're stuck with it.

Seriously this Linus torvalds quote is so accurate

In my opinion MS is a lot better at making money than it is at making good operating systems.

If there were no directx, pretty much nobody would want to use windows because it brings pretty much nothing to the table. It's slow, it's inefficient, it's so fucking obscure about errors it pretty much provides zero help (my experience with this shit pisses me off to this day), your customization options are limited to 3rd party hacks (uxpatcher, etc) and you basically can't change the desktop shell to anything besides what microsoft wants.

Good software is self-evident.

Have you ever seen the comment "I'd use linux but I can't because lack of games"? Because I see it a lot, and it shows you what's "good software" and what's not good software and just traps you into using it

And as a cherry on the cake, the credibility of the linux legion basically went straight to the negatives thanks to the conspiracy theories.

Jesus christ you're dense. No amount of links to microsoft's privacy statements, to credible sources, etc, will convince you.

Because a game running as admin makes sense. Right?

Because the immediate cause must be the game, right?

Nevermind he likely already tried with multiple games, does that mean all games are crashing the OS?.

The only reason most people use windows is not because they like it, because they're stuck with it.

Seriously this Linus torvalds quote is so accurate

Jelly teenager that is salty over the fact his creation is not dominating the world.

If there were no directx, gaming on Pc would be dead, we would have opengl and a sea of shitty alternatives that go nowhere just like linux today, a decentralized mess that accomplishes absolutely nothing.

Have you ever seen the comment "I'd use linux but I can't because lack of games"? Because I see it a lot, and it shows you what's "good software" and what's not good software and just traps you into using it

Have you seen the term "pipe dream"?

Jesus christ you're dense. No amount of links to microsoft's privacy statements, to credible sources, etc, will convince you.

>Implying you are giving credible sources.

Well we'll probably never know because of how obscure windows is with it's error reporting. Result will probably be "nvm reinstalling every single program and library on my computer and then windows fixed it"

Jelly teenager that is salty over the fact his creation is not dominating the world.

Are you being an ass on purpose? First off Linus isn't a teenager, he's 46, second that isn't even what the quote is about. Can you read? It isn't "I'm pissed that my OS isn't on every desktop" it's "Microsoft's OS is crap" + this quote "I don't try to be a threat to Microsoft, mainly because I don't really see MS as competition. Especially not Windows-the goals of Linux and Windows are simply so different."

If there were no directx, gaming on Pc would be dead

No it wouldn't. It'd mean gaming on PC would be more diverse than just consisting mainly of windows

we would have opengl and a sea of shitty alternatives

Are you saying opengl is crap? i.e. the thing that runs on fucking supercomputers and scientific labs (along with opencl) is crap?

And you do know those "shitty alternatives" would go nowhere unless gpu manufacturers want to implement them right? I.e. the main api would still likely be opengl or something else, graphics APIs take time to make, and time to implement

nowhere just like linux today, a decentralized mess that accomplishes absolutely nothing.

Runs on supercomputers, runs on most mobile phones, runs on the servers that get millions of requests per day (Google, Facebook, etc) and basically runs on anything that Microsoft hasn't trapped and gotten a chokehold on because it's simply better and more flexible instead of the turd that is windows

Have you seen the term "pipe dream"?

Can you read? I said people can't use Linux because exclusives, how is that a "pipe dream", how is that even a "dream"?

Implying you are giving credible sources.

Okay then, if none of that works, time to cite the most credible source, wikipedia

Here you go

Time to quote some stuff from this I guess

Concerns were shown by advocates and other critics for Windows 10's privacy policies and its collection and use of customer data.[202] Under the default "Express" settings, Windows 10 is configured to send various information to Microsoft and other parties, including the collection of user contacts, calendar data, and "associated input data" to personalize "speech, typing, and inking input", typing and inking data to improve recognition, allowing apps to use a unique "advertising ID" for analytics and advertising personalization (functionality introduced by Windows 8.1)[203] and allow apps to request the user's location data and send this data to Microsoft and "trusted partners" to improve location detection (Windows 8 had similar settings, except that location data collection did not include "trusted partners"[178]). Users can opt out from most of this data collection,[178][202] but telemetry data for error reporting and usage is also sent to Microsoft, and this cannot be disabled on non-Enterprise versions of Windows 10.[178]

ExtremeTech pointed out that, whilst previously scroogling against Google for similar data collection strategies, "[Microsoft] now hoovers up your data in ways that would make Google jealous."[178]

If you cared enough to do a ten second google search on the two error terms he posted you would know it's something related to bad ram managing, which may be a secondary effect of something going wrong on the upgrade or something touching the kernel while not being compatible.

Are you being an ass on purpose?

Yes

First off Linus isn't a teenager, he's 46, second that isn't even what the quote is about. Can you read? It isn't "I'm pissed that my OS isn't on every desktop" it's "Microsoft's OS is crap" + this quote "I don't try to be a threat to Microsoft, mainly because I don't really see MS as competition. Especially not Windows-the goals of Linux and Windows are simply so different."

Then doesn't that mean pushing linux on windows people is pointless because the goal of windows and to some extent mac are to provide a home OS and linux has it's focus on the server market where it belongs?.

No it wouldn't. It'd mean gaming on PC would be more diverse than just consisting mainly of windows

Oh sure that, without being centralized surely linux has provided us with unparalleled gaming progress.

Like nothing, unless you count valve which is a centralized point.

You know, the guys that gave linux more games in two years than "MUH OPEN FREEDUMBS" did in nearly two decades? Yeah.

Without dx to centralize gaming pc gaming would be dead and consoles would suck more.

And you do know those "shitty alternatives" would go nowhere unless gpu manufacturers want to implement them right? I.e. the main api would still likely be opengl or something else, graphics APIs take time to make, and time to implement

That is like saying the second place would be on first place in a race if you give that guy the first place.

Which basically means "it's better because it's better".

Of course it would, but a critical point most idealists zealots forget is how do you plan to do that?.

Magic?

Can you read? I said people can't use Linux because exclusives, how is that a "pipe dream", how is that even a "dream"?

That is like saying people would use pc more if consoles don't had exclusives.

They would.

But how do you plan to do that? Magic?.

Okay then, if none of that works, time to cite the most credible source, wikipedia

OK, i chucked, you would be laughed out of anywhere if your source was wikipedia.

But you forgot a couple things.

One, its under this page, which is a page whose purpose is point out that criticism exists, is not proving it's true.

And two, "Users can opt out from most of this data collection, but telemetry data for error reporting and usage is also sent to Microsoft, and this cannot be disabled on non-Enterprise versions of Windows 10."

In other words, this so called "spying" by cortana can be turned off, with the only thing not being able to be turned off by default is automated anonymous error logs.

Surely those are a severe threat to privacy ain't it.

I'm trembling knowing if a program crashes it will be a tiny pebble more in the mountain to help fix shit for a better OS.

Truly objectively literally we live on 1984 now.

I'm literally in panic.

Once again, nobody actually know's what's wrong with windows, ever. It's just wild guessing and throwing everything you have at the wall and seeing what sticks. And I can vouch for that. Issue fixing on windows is an absolute nightmare and it's unacceptable. It's not bias, it's not me exaggerating, it is what issue fixing on windows is, a massive PITA

linux has it's focus on the server market where it belongs?.

What is this with the "where it belongs" bullshit? You have absolutely no reason to say that yet keep on saying it. And Linux doesn't even have a focus on server, it has a focus on everything

Oh sure that, without being centralized surely linux has provided us with unparalleled gaming progress.

Do you expect open source to deliver DRM? You can't have both at a time. But it has given us one of the best operating systems ever, a myriad of high quality tools GNU, Busybox, BSD utils, curl (used pretty much everywhere nowadays), docker (even microsoft uses it!), clang (even microsoft uses it !), and so so many more.

You know, the guys that gave linux more games in two years than "MUH OPEN FREEDUMBS" did in nearly two decades? Yeah.

"A huge corporation did more work than like 15 assholes"

Shocking

Without dx to centralize gaming pc gaming would be dead and consoles would suck more.

Whatever word you like to use. You like to call it "centralize" I like to call it trapping people into Windows so that people are pretty much forced to use it even if they despise the god damn fucking thing, but they can't because games use directx. But anyways, go ahead and justify Microsoft however you like

I mean, there isn't even any argument with centralizing "graphics apis". Even if there is a shitload of API specs, nobody's gonna implement them unless they bring something to the table, which makes your arguments about seas of shitty apis irrelevant

That is like saying the second place would be on first place in a race if you give that guy the first place.

You pretty much have no argument about directx being good other than you saying it's good. No source, nothing.

But how do you plan to do that? Magic?.

Nope. Vulkan

One, its under this page, which is a page whose purpose is point out that criticism exists, is not proving it's true.

I actually found it under the main windows 10 wikipedia page

And two, "Users can opt out from most of this data collection, but telemetry data for error reporting and usage is also sent to Microsoft, and this cannot be disabled on non-Enterprise versions of Windows 10."

Why is it happening by default though? In an OS you paid $100 for?
