Was in a book suggestion sub, and someone asked for a book on the politics and lead up to WWI. Two people suggested All Quiet on The Western Front, and one of those suggestions was the second from the top. IT'S NOT ABOUT POLITICS OR THE LEAD UP THE WAR! Sometimes I feel like that book is the Hardcore History of books

So what's the worst(or your favorite) bad history you guys have ever seen? Irl, online, in a book etc?

Follow up: What's your favorite history documentary?

So, Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Obama, Merkel, the Vietcong and the Red Khmer were all SJW. That's what I learned this week from Reddit

[–]DirishPutting the Sass in the Sassanids. 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

To fit all of those people into a definition of SJW, it needs to be so inclusive you might as well change it to mean "everyone".

People who use "SJW" unironically tend to be at least a touch patriarchist and/or white supremacist. You'd think Hitler would be their idol.

So, Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Obama, Merkel, the Vietcong and the Red Khmer

Was expecting a joke, but there wasn't one, so here's a joke.

Stalin, Hitler and Trump are summoned before God, that tells them: "You are allowed to ask me one question, and I will answer it truthfully, whatever it is." So Stalin asks God: "What will be of my country once I'm done ruling it?" And God answers: "Your country will become strong and feared across the globe, but after 30 years it will inesorably decay and dissolve; Capitalism will come back in Russia, and Communism will be declared the loser of History, and you will be considered a mass murderer." And Stalin silently weeps. So Hitler asks next: "What will be of my country once I'm done ruling it?" And God answers: "Your country will be left in utter ruin while the whole of Europe storms upon it, spreading fire and misery; and Germany will be split for fifty years, and you will die cowering in fear in its underground." And Hitler silently weeps. Then Trump comes up and asks: "What will be of my country after I'm done ruling it?" And God silently weeps.

Paper due in 3 hours, have to integrate 15 sources into it, have half a paragraph written. There it goes, my 4.0, it goes so quickly.

Edit: had written paper-graph, instead of paragraph, and ingrate, instead of integrate, both of which are amazing mistakes.

[–]MiffedMouse 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

ingrate

Well there's your problem. If you had raised your sources better, they wouldn't be so ornery.

As you can tell I've completely lost my mind. Everything is fine.

For personal habitation purposes, would you guys buy a big (i.e., multiple rooms) but older apartment, or a new studio apartment?

With the former, I can possibly rent it to people for additional income, as well as make room in the unlikely event that I get married. But with the latter, chances are the place would be less lived-in, and it would be located in the "trendy" areas.

[–]DirishPutting the Sass in the Sassanids. 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

I'd go for the older, more spacious one. But I'm decent with DIY and have a ton of books that take up lots of space. And also you'd have to take things into account like heating the larger place will be more expensive, how well it's insulated compared to the newer place, maintenance, and the higher cost of decorating it.

[–]Felinomancy 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

heating the larger place

I live in a tropical country, so this is not a concern. As for decorating... lol.

I'll take your advise into consideration; I wouldn't mind having more space... it's a requirement to house my army of cats fitting as someone nominated to be the Craziest Cat Guy.

I am glad my post about bad shield history in /r/darksouls took off. I wasn't sure if I should actually post it here, but looking at the thread gave me an irresistible urge to do so. I did my best to seperate the game from the history and I think it worked out.

Havind said that, I'm not crazy enough to let this become a regular thing, I value my liver.

There's around 114 days to the UK's EU referendum. Any thoughts?

[–]P-01SGod made men, but RSAF Enfield made them civilized. 1ポイント2ポイント  (4子コメント)

Why's the UK considering splitting?

[–]The_Silver_Avenger 1ポイント2ポイント  (3子コメント)

Key issues from the Out campaign (disclosure: I'm undecided but leaning towards Remain):

  • Taking control of the UK's borders.
  • Not conceding further sovereignty to Brussels, and reclaiming control of laws.
  • Britain is able to punch above its weight on a global stage.
  • The EU is generally incompetent, and the partnership is breaking down/is unsustainable.
  • A return to a proper single market would benefit the UK and Europe.

Soooooo, the main push is by racist conservatives? Because that sure is what it sounds like. I bet there are even slogans along the line of "Britain for the British"...

Edit: how do you say "dey terk er jerbs" in British English?

[–]The_Silver_Avenger 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Oh, and in response to your edit, it's normally "they're coming over here, taking our jobs."

I might be slightly biased, but I'll give you a link to the 'Vote Leave' official booklet detailing the case for Brexit here.

You don't need to download the PDF, you can just click the 'open' button and it'll appear in a new window.

Also note that there is more than one 'Vote Leave' group. It's complicated, and some from the Brexit camp have admitted that they campaign is in a slight state of disarray.

I'd be enormously surprised if we vote to leave.

At the moment the two arguments appear to be "what is the point of leaving why are we even discussing this" and "I DONT WANT TO BE RULED BY PAKIS AND POLES"
