The underwear actually got less slutty when they were older.

spoiler: they are wearing the underwear from the first pic in the second one

My guess is the novelty of the thong wore off and they went back to comfortable.

or more likely, they staged the photo and wanted to look more modest. The Dad is in full clothes too

Simple, cotton thongs that fit correctly are the most comfortable underwear I own.

Thongs are actually most comfortable. What they're holding is really uncomfortable.

I didn't know this meme was popular enough to have an older-selves-reprise.

Have you ever been in an internet meme? You milk that shit for all it's worth. Bad luck brian wears a shirt of his meme everywhere he goes.

Just look at crazy girlfriend jane or w/e, has her own youtube channel.

[–]i_dont_know_man__fuk 8ポイント9ポイント  (0子コメント)

Damn, daddy must have gotten a huge raise over the years. Look at that house.

My boy used to love MLP, less so now. He still looks at memes and parodies. I was not concerned except for one thing. When asked the reasons he had to take tae kwon do, I replied. 1) you play video games all day , you need exercise and coordination. 2) you lack discipline and 3) If you are going to watch my little pony, you better learn how to fight.

Good dad.

I would've killed to take Tae Kwon Do as a kid.

That's probably the reason I didn't take Tae Kwon Do as a kid.

When i was a kid, my buddy refused to take Tae Kwon Do because he was afraid of becoming the stereotype that movies told him he was

That he was going to become like the blond kid of Cobra Kai?

I hate when I take a class of martial arts and become a popular douche.

Back a long time ago when I worked in a bakery, my colleagues and I all decided that "panini" was the best plural for "penis".

Oh god don't put him in tae kwon do at least put him in a useful self defense course. Honestly 99% of what they learn there isn't useful in the real world and is for show. Plus if he ever pulls that shit in a fight he's gonna look stupid and get beat up.

Boxing or wrestling that's where you get exercise and good self defense.

Skip wrestling and do judo. You'll kick ass and look fabulous at the same time.

Second this...judo is the shit especially when dealing with bullies.

all fights to go the ground, especially school bullies. skip judo, head to jujitsu.

The trick is to end the fight before it ever begins. Forget jujitsu and go straight to ninjutsu.

Or to be more specific, skip ninjutsu. Stare them straight in the eye and go for genjutsu.

I took years of taekwondo middle school to highschool. You'd be surprised how far just knowing how to throw a correct punch and muscle memory can get you. Heck even getting used to sparring teaches you not to close your eyes when a punch is thrown at you.

The first fight I was in (I have only been in very few in my life and have always come out the other side looking okayish) I did a basic side piercing kick into the guys chest before even I knew what I was doing. Ended right then and there. Honestly its the only fight I can say I've clearly won but it also would not have ended so fast if I did not default to a kick I had done 10,000 times.

There are a lot of elements that are for show in TaeKwon Do, learning patterns, bits of korean, but if you are in a serious school it can teach you a lot.

Just my two cents.

As a long time boxer who almost went to the Olympics for Tae Kwon Do before breaking my leg. It's pretty dam effective. I still fight muay Thai and I'll still use tkd kicks as they are highly effective. There is however a higher learning curve to using them in a self defense situation

"Tae Kwon Do is a pretty damn effective self-defense method."

- Olympic level Tae Kwon Do fighter

Most TKD schools also teach self defense early on. Just learning how to properly throw a punch is super helpful.

I watched the bronie documentary on Netflix a while back (I think that's where this pic came from).

Oh...my...god, I almost cringed to death.

Ok, I don't care what you enjoy watching/collecting/doing as long as it's not hurting anyone. But for the love of god why do they have to treat it like this big thing? Seriously a good portion of the documentary was focused on these people "coming out" to their friends and family. Why is it that big of a deal that you have to make a big to do over "coming out" as a bronie? It's just a tv show, go watch it, shut the fuck up and don't start crying because the general population finds its alittle odd that a grown ass man is obsessed with something directed towards 6yr girls.

Edit: A kind soul has informed me that it is on Amazon Prime for those of you who are interested.

I think my favorite part of that documentary was when the "psychologists" tried to say that bronies came into existence in reaction to 9/11

Well, I don't want to blame it all on 9/11 but it certainly didn't help.

It works for anything, really. If one thing is your entire personality, odds are you have a shitty personality.

Goes for bronies, weed, sports, video games, anime, anything. Don't let one thing define your entire being.

I got some really good advice when I was younger that truly helped shape me as a person. When I came out to my parents as gay, my mom asked a gay coworker of hers (they're both police, in the airborn division) to talk to me a bit, to perhaps give me some tips on what I could expect out of life and how to live the way I wanted, both within and without the realm of sexuality. And still, even years later, I can remember almost exactly what he said to me.

He said, "Okay, so you're gay, so what? It's a part of you, but it doesn't define you. It's not all of who you are. You're not Alt-Tabby, the gay guy. You're Alt-Tabby, who likes to read, who hates school, who has hobbies and a life, and yeah, you're also gay. You don't want that to be the first thing people introduce you by, because that's a shallow and narrow view of you, and it reduces you to less than what you actually are. Just be you, all of it, including (but not exclusively!) the gay bit."

He had a bunch of other insights as well that have stuck, but I feel like this bit is the most relevant, and has probably affected me the most.

Don't let one thing define your entire being.

That's kind of a phase kids/teens go through. Pretty normal as they figure out themselves.

This is the real issue. I don't give a fuck what shows you like to watch. You absolutely love to watch static for hours on end? God bless. I don't give a shit at all, but don't shove it in my face. It's the same reason I fuckin hate it when people preach religion in public places or hold the overly ridiculous pride parades. I don't want your business shoved in my face damn near no matter what it is.

This goes for anything.

By all means be a fan of a show/band/game but don't make everything you do about that content. You actively ruin the image of your favorite thing and might annoy potential fans so much that they never actually become fans.

As a vegan, gluten free, single mom, I agree with you.

No, I don't vape or do crossfit, that's just weird.

Oh of course you had to mention you're gluten free

As someone who is actually celiac, I have to mention it a lot because it comes up a lot. You never know how many cookies you're offered until you can't have cookies...

Also celiac. I have to explain to people that I'm not being pretentious and that I'll get a gnarly rash and possibly die, due to death related injuries, if I eat the brownies or sandwich they offer me. It wouldn't be quite as bad if gluten wasn't such a silly ugly word.

You don't want your Dick flying off and exploding like a firecracker, do you?

It's people that have no personality to begin with and resort to supplementing it by completely drowning themselves in some fandom. They think being labelled "brony" will somehow makes them more interesting as a person. The same goes for anything, the obsessive are the ones that choose to create their very identity around some band/show/whatever and in the process suppress whatever individualism they had to begin with.

I think this is common, and quite frankly, acceptable for teenagers. I was screaming for identity when I was 14-16 (30 now.) I was obsessed with like 3 punk bands and proudly displayed my obsession for those bands. "Oh that's him, the anti-flag guy." It was my obsession, no one else's. Granted, I was mildly socially awkward, but I found my place through shared interests in music, gaming, whatever else.

The point though is, you grow out of that once you figure out your priorities and you learn to interact like an experienced human being. Obsessive adult bronies seemed to have regressed back to that cry for identity.

I thought it was neat how 14 + 16 = 30.

Carry on.

But it was clearly 14 MINUS 16...geez!

Its like people who mistake smoking pot for having a personality.

Serious to God. I am a complete stoner, but you would never know it, even if you went to my house. I hate it when my nephew or brothers get me weed related shit. I really like donuts too, but no one ever gives me flour related shit. I don't have a Pillsbury dough boy sticker on my car, i don't listen to cake, I don't hang out with my friends for the sole purpose of baking. Same applies to weed.

I'm a Christian and my best friend is an atheist... I can't stand when people try to force others to believe in what they believe, my friend and I get along perfectly and our beliefs don't ever come in the way.

I'm a Christian and I have many atheist friends. It never comes up. And the preachers on campus, yea, other Christians hate you too. Mainly because you make us all look like assholes. Edit: a letter

To be fair, there is really nothing wrong with telling people about what you believe to be the truth. Just dont go overboard. If they tell you to stop, then stop.

I don't think Bronies are actively trying to convert people to their views.

Yeah, this was common when it first started but now its calmed down.

Its like "please watch this show to affirm that its good. I don't want to be the only one."

I dunno about that. I was in college when the whole MLP thing was getting popular and there were these 5 sweaty neckbeard guys who, about once a month, would set up what amounted to a booth in a heavy foot traffic area. They would stop passers-by to pass out stickers and tell them about the glories of MLP. They were basically brony evangelists.

Bob's Burgers summed up the phenomenon rather nicely.

[–]The_Yak_Strikes_Back 151ポイント152ポイント  (21子コメント)

they treat it like a big thing because it is, hundreds of millions of people around the world watch shows or listen to music or just in general consume media, but do they obsess? not like this.

I was watching a documentary on bronies not long ago and one guy went on to say it wasn't weird to like it, it has good music, animation, etc. and went on to say that people don't like grown men watching it because it's a show for little girls despite it's "legitimate" qualities (i have never watched the show and thus cannot comment)

It then cut to him dressed up in full pony gear high fiving kids in a park.

That's not how a casual fan responds to a show or film, that's an obsession, and i'm sorry, but it's really fucking weird.

Yeah, pretty much this. No people don't hate you for watching whatever stupid shit you watch. They avoid you because you make watching a little girl's cartoon such a core part of your life and identity that it's fucking horrifying.

Had to watch this documentary for a class. To be honest, there was a story about some kid with Asperger's who came out of his shell for some brony convention, and it was actually kinda touching. I guess as long as you're not obnoxious about it or make it weird and sexual I have no issue with bronies.

I don't know if I would rather have that. My nightmares are always very realistic to the point that I have a hard time snapping out of it after I wake up. that show was so fucked. I couldn't handle it when I was a kid.

I loved the show, probably my favorite show on Cartoon Network.
Scariest episodes for young me were (in order - scariest to less scary):
Windmill Vandals (horrifying)
Heads of Beef (something about that pig spooked me)
The Demon in the Matress (weird demon with scary voice)
Everyone Wants to Direct (spoopy zambies man)
King Ramses' Curse (this one is obvious)

The best thing about Courage is that as a kid I found it simply entertaining and funny, but right now I'm an adult and I'm like "what in the hell, how is this a children's cartoon"... Pretty creepy to say the least.

I now hold a new respect for you, but please just stay away from Ramses.

I'd love to see a children's book where a little kid was given the ability to see adults in a way where their outside matched their inside. The kid could look past all the false confidence to see that many adults are still just a mess of fear and hurt inside.

Can someone give me an ELI5 on why MLP exploded into such a cult with people, regardless of age, being devoted to it and dressing up like ponies? Honest question. I grew up watching Pokemon and YuGiOh, but you didn't see me walking around in a Joey outfit and having fetishes about Geodude.

EDIT: Hm, maybe I should have worded this differently. Perhaps it was at a point in social media (Or more so that it was nonexistent) why kids shows back in the day didn't seem to be as prevalent as MLP in terms of its following and cult-like appearance.

Not having fetishes about Geodude

What are you, gay?

Honestly, this is just my guess, but I think it's actually a result of the hate. When someone gets mocked or shat on for something they like, they make stronger ties with others like them. They band together, it's kind of human nature. I don't think it has much to do with the cartoon itself and more to do with the fact there are so many that are adamantly against it.

Because back in the day, people did this exact same shit with pokemon. And star wars. And Star Trek. And Power Puff Girls or whatever.

But the only place you knew to see that was on TV. Which meant someone had to create a television show, or a segment, devoted to showing you these things.

Now we have the internet. There is no need for production costs. You just get a camera on your fucking phone, go to where the shit is, take some pictures, and bam, you have a story. You have pictures. You have videos. Look at these weird motherfuckers.

Now, I won't argue that the amount of wackjobs attracted to MLP isn't larger than it was for previous television shows, but the reason it seems so out of control is that everything these days is so interconnected. Between facebook, twitter, reddit, and other social networks, the wackjobs can all find each other, reaffirm their wackiness, and 'regular' people can all stand on the sidelines and point and laugh.

You hear about it with the mlp fandom because it's perceived as a television show for little girls. So adult dudes watching it for any reason at all is enough for ridicule and enough for people to share it.

Did you know there are people just as obsessed with Steven Universe? Or Gravity Falls? Without someone shoving it in your face and going 'look at this weird motherfucker' you'd never know about it.

Case in point, think back to every weird brony you ever heard about. Now subtract all the ones you saw on reddit, or facebook, or some 4chan copypasta or anything like that. Subtract all the weird bronies you saw on the internet and you've got like two left (Unless you live near a con or somesuch). You'd have know way to know these motherfuckers existed.

That's exactly what it was like before the hyperconnectivity of social networks. These people existed, they just weren't a connected group feeding off the wackiness of eachother back then.

Can someone give me an ELI5 on why MLP exploded into such a cult with people, regardless of age, being devoted to it and dressing up like ponies?

"Dressing up like ponies" is actually quite uncommon except at major events like Brony conventions. As is the case for cosplay for just about any fandom.

But most of the people who are bronies are bronies because there's something about it they like. Some just like the show. Some just like the characters. Some just like the music. Some just like the community of the fandom. Some just like the art the fandom produces (some of which is amazing.) Some just like the folks that are in the fandom and find it an uplifting and welcoming community.

And some are just rebelling against socially-constructed gender stereotypes.

I grew up watching Pokemon and YuGiOh, but you didn't see me walking around in a Joey outfit and having fetishes about Geodude.

I grew up watching Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe, and shit like Road Rovers and Swat Kats. (Hah, yeah, I'm dating myself.)

But I don't own a fursuit, I'm not a pilot or in the Special Forces, and I don't have a crudely-painted papier-mâché turtle shell that I wear to work. (Edit: But, thinking about it, I do seem to have a thing for brunettes in jumpsuits.)

It's really unfair to paint fans of a show as solely people who are obsessively emulating the content of obscure media. The comparison to Pokemon and YuGiOh is fair, and I'd invite you to think about that comparison more. Are there any cartoons you watch today as an adult? Do you still play the Pokemon or YuGiOh! CCGs? (Did you know there's an official MLP CCG?)

In truth, you already know what a Brony is. You also already know what a Trekkie is. The only difference is which show it is we love.

Is that really so strange?

Everyone seems touchy here

Apparently the show is still a touchy subject 5 years, 4 months and 18 days after it started airing (and is still airing; season 6 starts in May).

I mean, it's just a cartoon FFS, it's not the second coming of Christ, or the first sign of the Apocalypse, as some people treat it. Just, sit down and enjoy it for what it is: a fun cartoon with fun characters going on wacky adventures.

Don't make it a defining part of your life, and don't hate on it and its fanbase just because you think it's strange.

That man looks used to disappointment. He still has a Bush sign in his garage.

When socially awkward people are gullible enough to latch onto a fad based collective identity, arguing it is wacky simply reinforces it as a special group for select people who truly understand it. Better to just let it play out.

the fact that the whole "brony" thing started out as a joke on a certain website which shall remain nameless and then spread because someone didnt get the joke and thought it was serious is pretty hilarious to me

Had a friend whose brother still lives at home she told me he was a brony. The tension got surreal it was like we were both mourning someone who was perfectly healthy

I got my recommended daily amount of sodium from this thread alone

From a video where someone who loves dressing up as a "living doll" reveals her obsession to her family https://vimeo.com/83232768 (25:20 in)

I actually thought that girl wasn't too bad (out of all the people featured). She just liked dressing like a doll, but she said it made her feel more confident and happy, and she still went to school, tried to find a job and socialized with other people.

ITT: pissed off bronies

All the top comments are actually the opposite though.

What's a brony?

The term "brony" is a portmanteau of the words "bro" and "pony", and is a callsign or signifier of a fandom surrounding the new My Little Pony show, similar to how the word "Trekkie" refers to the fandom of people who obsess over Star Trek.

Yes, it's a real thing and has been since 2010, and yes, it's still going.

Let's be honest, everyone in this thread is angry.

of all the childrens' shows out there, why is this phenomenon seemingly exclusive to my little pony? ie. Why don't we see "Strawberry Brocakes" or some other teenage boy following of other childrens shows

I was gonna say I don't remember a wave of "Pokesexuals" when pokemon came around, but then I just remembered some of the things I've seen on the internet.

The worst broken dad face I ever saw was on one of those 16 and pregnant shows.

There was a family dinner. The dad was asking the baby daddy how he planned to support his daughter/grandkids if he was dropping out of school... the daughter vehemently answered for him stating that he did not need schooling, he was going to drive for Nascar and make big bucks so she could drop out of school and stay at home... yhe boyfriend remained silent. The Dad's face face was one of failure and disappointment - as if admitting "I really fucked up somewhere down the line..."

Jesus. It's times like that I'd think long and hard about digging a couple of graves in the back yard and offing the teens once the kid is born. Try again with the grandkid.

I had no idea what a Brony was, from the dad's Bush poster I thought maybe it was some political thing, like a Bernie supporter.

Then I Googled it, and immediately realized this is exactly what my neighbor is. Didn't know it was "a thing...."

That's ironic, he has the same face that my dad had in my baby photos

The face of a man who knows he's never guna be a grandfather
