the Netflix app has a support function where in the app you can do a video conference call with the expectation that if you have an error, you can point the phone at the TV and the Netflix support person can easily identify the issue.

PS: you don't have to grant the permissions for Netflix to work. This isn't being 'censored,' it's being deleted.

It's only slightly more relevant than when he tried posting the exact same thing in /r/MMA a few minutes earlier. Android developer here. I absolutely hate the generalized permissions groups. They look scary to users when they're usually used for completely innocent things.

I have an app that needs to know whether you're connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data before downloading things and it comes up under the "read phone status and identity" category. Yikes.

It probably requires "call information" because it automatically pauses the show if you get a phone call. It's not like it's that hard to decompile an APK and see what it does with the information anyway.
