Two things:

(1) People deserve to know the real reasons James was fired. Not just hear you sling some personal attacks (I can see where the community gets its toxicity from now) on someone. If anything, James was the only thing keeping the shit show that has been the last two days of this event afloat.

(2) You should apologize for your mistakes. If hiring James was a mistake. Apologize. Also, how about apologizing for THE WORST PRODUCED EVENT we have seen in years? You may be trying to fix things but damned if you aren't trying to do it in a way that looks terribly unprofessional and uncaring towards the community and your own employees.

Edit: Yikes, already getting replies from people telling me I must be entitled because somehow calling your own employee an ass is a totally legitimate way of communicating with your customers from a billion dollar company. I expect comments like "He's an ass." from 5-year old kids not a fucking CEO. I am not fiending for some sort of TMZ drama or Barbara Walters behind the scene tell-all over here. Just pointing out how this is equally unprofessional if not entirely unnecessary. If you want to stay silent on your reasons, then shut the fuck up and don't post shit. Basically do anything but this.

James flamed players, even though they weren't pertinent to the match taking place, Spirit vs VG. He also kept the show running while production told him to go to break. Could be issues with unions or work conditions in place regarding breaks for the people running the cameras, sound, etc. By extending the show, they couldn't eat, rest, etc. I think the general idea is, for larger production for every person you see on camera, as part of the show, there can be 5-10 people working in the background at the same time to get the product out.

I think the same thing happened to Ayesee because he was flaming the game/players during a really long match. Which resulted into him never being invited back to TI officially for anything by Valve. He only attends now as a part of the EG production crew, not as a caster/interviewers etc.

[–]Olive Gerbils-axyom [

Can I get a video of the Ayesee situation that you mentioned?

how fucking entitled must you feel to actually say that you deserve to know the reason why he was fired, what the fuck.

[–]sexual_inurendo [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

That and also insinuating that Gabe makes all decisions on staff hirings and discussions

[–]Jazerdet [

He doesn't have a clue what he's talking about at all. He's saying we get toxicity from Gabe? Until now I've only heard kind words from him and calling James an ass isn't even half as bad as some of the things James said. That being said, James was the only saving grace of this tournament so far and I'm really sad to see him go but shit happens.

Saying Gabe is toxic is just straight up conjecture though.

He's just a lowly consumer trying to decide whether or not to continue supporting a product/company, pay him no heed.

:)

Some people appear to have never heard of that contract clause regarding this very thing. Which is ironic considering the history that has on reddit.

A fine example of the classis reddit fucktard.

Oh, go fuck yourself. Firing someone midway through an event where thousands of people are watching is a big deal. He's not the janitor. Valve knew he was "an ass" and we knew he was "an ass". To many of us he acted like we expected. Getting blind sided and not have an answer when we the PAYING fans want one is not good enough from a billion dollar company.

If we don't deserve to know the reason why 2GD was fired (which we don't) he shouldn't say: "Hey guys James is an asshole, not gonna tell you what happened though just take my word for it!". Should've just posted a generic no comment and be done with it.

Ya fuck us paying customers that make them millions of dollars. We don't deserve to know anything that our overlords don't want to tell us.

Don't act like you're a stockholder because you pay 20 dollars for a game. How does that entitle you to know the inner workings of a company like Valve?

Delusional doesn't begin to describe some people in this subreddit.

Yes, because clearly you should have to be a stockholder to know why a host was fired. That knowledge is so important to valve i'm sure only gaben himself knows. Holy fuck you are stupid.

You really have no idea what you're talking about. =/

[–]Feel those bicepsRamboJet [

You wanna know why he was fired? Because he likes to suck big dicks like you. Are you happy now?

[–]mine elevendoingitforfree [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

what do you gain from knowing why he was fired

what does valve gain from telling you

you will keep buying compendiums after this has flown over and you know it

They get people on their side instead of just splitting the community in half?

[–]mine elevendoingitforfree [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Do you think that the james half will all massively stop spending money on Dota 2?

Valve has NOTHING to gain by being transparant here other than fuel more drama here.

Would you want your employment history along with reasons for dismissal made public? Or does it not count since it isn't related to DotA?

[–]i dont even know who to cheer for anymorePlasticMilk

With that kind of logic, I am entitled to hear [insert company here that I buy shit from/GM from a franchise of a big company] explain to me why they fired certain employees which I interacted with at their store!

As a customer you should be satisfied that they're firing the god awful production crew and replacing them. They should be praised for that.

Not before i see an improved product lmao. If the product doesn't improve who the fuck cares?

[–]Xaxxon [

I read it as: "If you want to keep me as a fan, then you must tell me why he was fired."

It's not entitlement, it's simply an explanation of the situation. You're not entitled to me being a fan, I'm not entitled to knowing why he was let go, but if we can agree on something, we can both get what we want.

[–]EE FANGAYDyllyn [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Fuck you actually, we deserve to know, we paid for this shit

[–]PM_ME_WEIRD_PICS [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

People don't deserve anything. That's an item that stays between employer and employee. Very likely it's in James' best interest for it to stay that way anyway.

You sound like you are a twelve year old only child.

[–]Olive Gerbils-axyom [

I wouldn't say that when your reddit name is oddfuture. luls

Why is that?

People deserve to know the real reasons James was fired

Why?

You should apologize for your mistakes. If hiring James was a mistake. Apologize

Roflmao

[–]Wensleydale_Gaming [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I can see where the community gets its toxicity from now

Lol what? Gabe is not the reason why Dota 2 is toxic.

Action RTSs are toxic because they have a heavy emphasis on teamwork. It's one of the faults of the genre. Of course players are going to get pissed off at each other when someone isn't pulling their weight.

Sports have drama in it. eSports are no exception. That plus ARTS toxicity is a recipe for extra salt.

THE WORST PRODUCED EVENT we have seen in years?

What is the Dota 2 AllStars tournament?

Or the Game Paradise event?

[–]wow mb are not doing terribly? okay sure maybe i'm deadblastcage

In terms of expectations to reality this was by far the worst

Shane's bargain basement Irelan tournament was legitimately better produced than this shitpile

The major is produced by valve, and this would be the worst produced valve event we have ever seen.

people telling me I must be entitled because somehow calling your own employee an ass is a totally legitimate way of communicating

how fucking entitled must you feel to actually say that you deserve to know the reason why he was fired

10/10 reading comprehension A+++++++++

People don't deserve shit, they don't need to say anything about the reasons as to why they would fire one of their employes, it is a private company, stop being entitled.

[–]Jack_of_all_offs [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

1 is obvious. He's hosting a Major, not his own personal stream where he can talk about jerking off and then proceed with mercilessly lambasting a pro.

2, I agree with. Simple "sorry about that" would make some people happy.

End of the day? The production all around was bad (Host and everything else.) It has been dealt with.

[–]mine elevendoingitforfree [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

people dont deserve shit, dont like it dont watch it/buy/spend time on it

  1. Information privacy law

  2. Moot point. You can only speak for yourself, not the "community" or Valve "employees"

  1. He doesnt need to tell you everything, or anything. Thats Valve's bussiness. Where have you seen a company that tells his custumers who they hire, who they fire, why, how, when, etc?? They dont "owe you" an explanation, they can do whatever the fuck they want.

  2. He gave him another chance, james fucked up. Gabe needs to apologize? you just dont like him for wathever reason, because all your points are just salty un-informed assumptions

He has no obligation to apologize to you or the community, so get off your high horse and stop expecting people to treat you like a king.

If you think the treatment you get watching a free tournament of a free game that you play is not fair to you and requires the fucking organizer to come and apologize for his mistakes, please stop watching/stop playing/stop whatever in protest. Instead of posting shit here asking for apologies. (You might even be better served rallying up the community to see your point of view).

As for your edit: He made a candid statement about his views on the James and the situation, and honestly I prefer him being candid about that rather than giving us a standard statement. I'm sure many others in the community prefer this as well. Honestly, all the community cares about is having a watching a good tournament, and I think he is trying to get that done as well. Him replacing the production crew and working on making a kick ass main event is 100x better than your idea to get him to apologize to the community.

Seriously. I thought for sure that this was a troll post from a fake Gaben who got upvoted as satire.

I did not expect Gabe himself to make an appearance and announce this over Reddit so unprofessionally. Its kinda badass though.

Not saying Gabe's setting a good example by calling James out like this, but saying these kinds of situations fuel the community's toxicity is quite daft. This kind of behaviour has existed for much longer than eSports drama.

Otherwise, you have a pretty good point. What's up with all of this?

[–]Bulldong is lovehyg03 [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

People deserve to know the real reasons James was fired.

Reddit doesn't deserve SHIT after people tried to smear EE's reputation by making FAKE tweet DM's.

[–]sexual_inurendo [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

people tried to smear EE's reputation by making FAKE tweet DM's.

When was this?

people don't deserve to be told shit, you don't get to buy a soda from 7/11 and know whats happening inside their business

[–]wow mb are not doing terribly? okay sure maybe i'm deadblastcage

Not just hear you sling some personal attacks

This is the most important part

[–]Func [

I can see where the community gets its toxicity from now

Yup, Dota was a game of gentlemen before Gabe "babyrage" Newell came in and made Dota 2 - forever tainting the well behaved Dota playerbase.

I didn't bother to read the rest of your post after that dumb shit but I assume it's all equally retarded, gtfo
