So if there are any Geologists here who remember Structures notation (Besides... I don't remember your username, but I showed you this in class), here is an incredibly bad joke I made about stress analysis and Communism.... Sorry.

Also, Superhot finally came out this week, so I've been playing that. And the stuff I ordered for the Pittsburgh Penguins 50th anniversary sale arrived today, so now I've got way to much Penguins stuff. Go Penguins.

Hey guys, do any of you know where I can find some memoirs or diaries from the Thirty Years--more specifically, do you knows where I can get some first-hand accounts regarding Swiss Mercenaries in the Thirty Years War? I've been looking around, but I haven't found anything yet.

Anybody have some recommendations for books on the New Deal, hopefully written fairly recently?

I'd take a look at some of Alan Brinkley's works.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found The End of Reform: New Deal Liberalism in Recession and War by Brinkley? It seems like what I'm looking for.

So looks like Donald Trump is set to become the Republican nominee. He's single-handedly exposed the modern democratic process to be a complete and utter farce.

Not that we didn't already know, intellectually, that it was a farce; with the media covering elections as if they were sporting events or reality shows, campaigns being run not on rational debate about issues but on fundamentals of corporate marketing and advertising (focus group testing, branding, use of catchphrases and logos), and all the most critically important parts of the US government, like the Federal Reserve, completely under the control of unaccountable technocrats anyways, precisely because they knew something like this might happen to our democracy one day. But it took Donald Trump to fully hammer it in that you can win an American Presidential election, to get into the most powerful office in the entire world, just by throwing grade-school insults at your opponents, bragging about how rich you are, and making up rambling, emotionally charged monologues without a shred of factual content.

Not to mention with no experience in government, no predictability, and no guarantee that he even actually believes, or will attempt make good on, anything that he says. No matter what happens from now on, the office of the Presidency and the American political system have been completely degraded and discredited.

Instead of blaming the media, the institutions, the "establishment". How about blaming yourself? The process is broken, because nobody cares anymore and those that do care are hardliner idealists.

Did I ever say it was the fault of "institutions"? The media reports the way it does because regular people like us find it interesting. Trump is leading the polls because regular people are either enamored with his bullshit or completely apathetic. The Fed has to be undemocratic because the vital functions of the economy have to be protected from the unreasonable demands of clueless regular people. It all comes back to us.

Why is it that politics in other countries are always more fun to watch than in my own? They always have this well written narrative that I can never see where I live. Maybe it's because they're other places and I don't really feel the same connection

I have been busy this week, but I still hope to have time to play some sweet video games.

Minecraft 1.9 is coming out next week, and it looks pretty awesome. I may jump back into it. I think I have put around 500 hours into that game alone with friends and servers.

I bought All Orcs Must Die 2, for me and and my girlfriend. Hope to play some coop of that, it looks fun!

Subnautica is being updated soon, now with farming! Might want to wait another month/update before jumping in again. I played 18 hours my first go over winter break. I need to play it again sometime and make a much better base however.

I need to play either Europa Univerals or XCOM eventually. I kinda know the mechanics for UE4, but I can never make any money in my empire. Any tips?

Also I want to play some board games. Got Fury of Dracula, and after letting my friends be Dracula in our previous 3 games, it's time for me to step up to bat*.

*amazing pun.

Diamond fans took over an /r/AskAnthropology thread. I don't have the patience or time now, but kudos to the brave standard bearers who continue the fight! Your comrades salute you!

Now for something more fun... Pork_buns, smileyman, and other badhistory Blacklist fans, lets talk. What are your favorite show theories?

I saw that. It's disheartening that more people aren't coming out of the woodwork to denounce the obviously biased and uninformed top post.
