Police have arrested a 23-year-old Ukrainian man for posing as a high school student in Harrisburg.

Artur Samarin is charged with theft, identity theft and tampering with public records, police say. He's accused of using the false identity of Asher Potts, including using a false date of birth, social security card and other documents.

Samarin was enrolled under the name of Asher Potts and was enrolled at John Harris High School since the fall of 2012.

Police found Samarin in possession of a Pennsylvania driver's license under the name of Asher Potts when he was arrested.

Samarin remained in the United States after his visa expired, according to police.

Harrisburg School District Public Relations Coordinator Kirsten Keys released a statement saying the district was cooperating with the investigation.

"While we do not know all of the details surrounding the arrest, we are treating this as a serious matter. At this time, the investigation is in the hands of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police. The district will continue to cooperate fully with the police department as they move forward with their investigation," Keys said.

In January, Samarin, posing at Potts, participated as one of the panelists in the first forum addressing violence and youth in the greater Harrisburg area.

Samarin, posing at Potts, also appeared as a member of the ROTC at the school and received recognition awards, including from Rep. Patty Kim, according to a tweet from Kim's account dating back to May 30, 2014.

Anyone with information about Samarin is asked to call Harrisburg police at 717-255-3158 or 717-255-3115.
