• The Space Programme

• Defence/military partnership during the Cold war and World Wars.

• More right-wing politics - influencing Britain to end daft ownership of industries the government had no business inefficiently running.

• Culturally, the best of American TV has been pretty fantastic for the last two decades.

• Adding maple syrup to a cooked breakfast (controversial).

Bad

• Dragging Britain into an ongoing series of military disasters in the Middle East.

• Consumer culture.

• More right-wing politics - now we are in danger of starting to privatise our health service/prisons/police.

• Celebrity culture.

• Obesity epidemic.

The Inbetween

• Starbucks and American coffee culture. Probably contributed to the recent drop in our national drinking problem. Now replaced by a sugar problem.

• NSA/GCHQ surveillance. Either a valuable partnership making us all safer or a trans-Atlantic violation of human rights.

Some of those bad things would have happened anyway, but maybe more slowly and less severely.
