What are the Russians doing in Georgia anyway? Occupying those small territory... Are they looking for land that isn't 100 percent ice lol

There were seperatist regions that were allied to Russia, Russia also had peacekeepers there. When Georgia started shelling and killed a few Russian peacekeepers, Russia invaded.

As far as I know, the South Ossetians started shelling the Georgians before the offensive. Then, when the Georgians entered South Ossetia the Russians reacted. I might be wrong though.

An EU report concluded that Georgia started the war, following months of sporadic shelling / provocations by both sides.
