        When I was growing up, the kids in my neighborhood had 6 players : 4 controllers as a pretty normal get-together. The last two would trade off to the two in line waiting, while the first two tended to be kids who owned the game.

            The player in last place switches out each time. If there's 10 people then do the people in the last two places, and so on.

            I'm not totally sure how it all worked, but I asked the guy who set it up and that's what he said, so I'm assuming that yes it does work...or maybe we used magic. It's definitely one of the two.

            Edit: just got a message that it could have not been LAN. So basically it was magic.

            I miss playing these: we usually had a wait of 2. The worst 2 players of each round had to change out, and if you were in (winning) for 6 consecutive rounds you had to switch out instead. It kept incentive high and turnover high as well. I think I learned more about business modeling from halo in college than I did from the university.

                              I'll answer that: not really. Assuming your non military friends play a lot of FPS there's not enough of real life in video games that carries over. The main difference is we have the same terminology already in place, but friends who play together on a regular basis are no different.

                              We ran local tournaments for Halo for a few years and it was always an interesting time when we would swap players around in teams and try to figure out what everyone was referring to.

                              Seriously, what's happening to couch multiplayer? It's my favorite memories ever from playing video games. There's a kinetic energy to it, a real buzz. Halo 5 being only 1 player per system blew my mind. It's not just Halo either, but Halo was a staple to the great games built on couch co-op/multiplayer gaming. I have this big tv and tons of controllers and now no games to play with everyone. No one wants to watch me play a video game—that's a joke. Frankly online multiplayer is pretty impersonal and a shallow experience; the matches are short and often you startup your next match with an entirely new set of people.

                              Couch multiplayer needs to come back in a big way.

Some friends and I tried to do an MCC LAN shortly after it came out...only to find out it there was no option to set up LAN and had to try to do it over XBL, and then couldn't even do that because it was in the middle of MCC being absolute shit and not being able to get everybody into a lobby.

                                        As much as I love playing split screen, it sucks going from having your own screen the majority of the time to sharing it with others. It's always hype to play though, if it's not the same teams all the damn time.

                                        Always loved halo lan parties back in high school. Only bad thing was after a few hours with 8 guys in a small space the smell of pizza, sweat, and farts was to much.

                                        Our group still tries to do this about once a month if we can get everyone together. Been doing it since Halo 1, skipped 2, and now we still play 3 exclusively, on mostly custom maps.

                                        Great LAN game that has totally ignored the split-screen experience after Halo 3. Draw distance limitations totally ruins the experience.

                                        Back in 2004 I was coming home from deployment and the Navy IT guys wanted to make a wager on a 16 player Halo game. My fellow Marines and I ended up running CAT5E all over the damn ship so we could link the four boxes from all different departments that wanted to get in on the action. People told me you could hear the yelling everywhere you went. It was badass!
