How e-Learning courseware is used is still evolving and the awards that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) clinched at the recent Lectora e-Learning Courseware Competition showed that it is mindful of this.

The competition, now in its fourth year, recognises organisations that use the Lectora e-Learning courseware design program to develop the best courseware for their staff. The award ceremony was held at Marriott Hotel on 23 Jan.

Organised by e-Learning Consultants Pte Ltd (eLC), the annual contest also showcases outstanding examples of e-Learning courseware.

This year's competition saw the SAF win 11 of 20 awards and among the winners were the team from the School of Ammunition.

Team members Lee Kwong Nam, Elienia Tay Swee Ling and Johnny Tan Yong Hao clinched the Bronze Award in both the Best Demonstration of Instructional Design (Open) and the Best Demonstration of Multimedia, Interaction or Simulation (Open) categories for their courseware on depot sealing and break seal.

Ms Tay told cyberpioneer that the Lectora program offered great accessibility as it was part of a Learning Management System that was readily available on the Internet. Mr Tan was full of praise for the Lectora program, saying it is "user-friendly and expedits the learning curve greatly".

1st Sergeant (1SG) Jason Ho Jiale of the Republic of Singapore Air Force also took home the Bronze Award in the Best Demonstration of Instructional Design (Open) category for his courseware on F-5 armament. He also noted that all the Lectora program's functions were very easy to use.

He emphasised that "putting yourself in the learners' shoes" was the key to winning the competition.
