シリアの花嫁　ウェディングドレスは廃墟になった街でも美しく輝く

シリアの都市ホムスは、かつて100万人が暮らす大都市だった。

現在、その面影はほとんどない。シリア政府と反乱軍の激しい戦いが何年も続き、残っているのは空洞になった建物ばかりだ。

しかしそこに花嫁と花婿が加わると、街の印象は突然変わる。撮影したのはシリア人写真家ジャファー・メレイ氏。彼が伝えたいメッセージ、それは「生は死より強い」だ。

結婚写真に写っているのは、新婚のナダ・メリ（18歳）とハサン・ヨーゼフ（27歳）夫婦だとワシントンポスト紙が伝えている。撮影されたのは2月5日だ。

ナダは伝統的なウェディングドレスを、ハサンはシリア軍服を着用していて、2人が立つ道路や建物の内部は破壊され瓦礫が散乱している。

メレイ氏は2015年にも、別のカップルを撮影している。

アサド大統領を支持するメレイ氏は、シリアで普通の生活がまだ続いていることを伝えるために写真を撮影しているとインディペンデント紙に伝えている。

「シリア国民として、不法行為やテロリズムを止めて、愛と平和を広げようと伝えたいのです。シリアの人々、そして世界中の人々がテロリズムに苦しんでいます」と彼は述べている。

写真から、シリアの人たちのメッセージが伝わるだろうか。
