There are 18 year old kids going into the Army every single day, they just don't have to invade France, which has nothing to do with their life choices.

They are, but if I'm not mistaken, the WW2 generation was mostly terrified kids drafted and tossed into the meat grinder. Although it does take a whole fucking lot of bravery to see said meat grinder and not immediately blow your brains out.

There were a diversity of opinions on having to fight but a solid amount of guys were down to do their part but would often get very bitter if they were in a unit that saw too much action. Everyone wanted to get it over with and go home

Yeah. I imagine seeing someone get chewed to oblivion by a heavy machine gun in front of you would immediately end any thoughts you had on the glory of battle. Unless you are one of those self-loathing dudes with a death wish.

I see ww2 as arguably a just war by the US(in some aspects) and would probably have fought in it

But Iraq Afghanistan and vietnam were bullshit wars

You only really know later if its "just". Most Americans had never heard of Pearl Harbor but cared that their country had been attacked. Just like the sentiment of 9/11.
