The second half of my blogger adventure (see the first half here) took me to northern Japan for the first time to Iwate Prefecture. I’ve never been to this part of the country before so it was fun to have an entirely new experience. The only downside? I was missing my partner-in-crime. Oh, and the sick part.
After a 2 1/2-hour journey on the Shinkansen (bullet train), which is my favorite way to travel in Japan because of how comfortable and fast it is, we arrived in Iwate at Geibi Gorge (Geibikei) just outside Haraizumi. We enjoyed lunch at a casual restaurant, or rest house, before embarking on a 90-minute ride on a flat boat down the river. It’s always amazing to me how little time it takes to get from the concrete, steel and neon of Tokyo out into nature. People think of Japan and immediately imagine cityscapes, but so much of the country is mountainous, lush and just plain gorgeous.
Sometimes you just need to surround yourself by green and take a deep breath — it’s amazing how quickly your troubles seem far away.
Your photos are amazing! This part of Japan looks so beautiful!
Thank you!!
