Why we are doing a Limited Beta?

We here at ETeeski have decided to release a limited beta version of Ant Simulator as an alternative to offering early access to the game. Selling a Beta version will allow us to avoid relying on a publisher for funds to finish the game. It also prevents us from making promises we can’t deliver on, which is all too common for games in early access. Finally, relying on feedback from a small network of dedicated beta testers will allow us to make the critical improvements to Ant Simulator that will help the game reach its full potential.

Details of the Beta Release:

250 copies of Ant Simulator will be available for purchase on November 30th for beta testing.

The Beta is priced at $30 per copy**, and sales will end once 250 copies are sold. Proceeds from the beta sales will contribute to developing the final features to be included in Ant Simulator, including a more diverse and unique gameplay environment, as well as additional assets in the game.

Each purchase of the Beta will include a steam key, which can be used once the final version of the game is available on Steam (estimated early 2016). The Green Light Campaign will begin the week following Cyber Monday. We will NOT be offering green light early access.

Who Should Buy the Beta?

Anyone passionate about Ant Simulator, and who would like to contribute to its final stages of development should consider purchasing the Beta version of the game. We request that all Beta testers be willing to share insightful and honest feedback that can be used by our development team to enhance the game prior to its final release.

Please note that the Beta version is still a work in progress, and development will continue through the final launch of Ant Simulator in early 2016. Furthermore, the game is not fully optimized, so we recommend you have a PC meeting the following performance specifications if you plan to purchase the Beta:

Reccomended computer specifications:

Minimum:

Nvidia Geforce 660 ti graphics card or equivalent

2-core 2ghz CPU

Reccomended:

Nvidia Geforce 760 ti graphics card or equivalent

4-core 3ghz CPU

Beta available on PC, Mac, Linux

**The final version of Ant Simulator will be available on Steam for a price yet to be determined. Depending on feedback received from beta testers, as well as recommendations from Steam, it is possible that the final version will be priced under $30. We encourage anyone interested in buying Ant Simulator at a lower price to wait for its official release or a future sale on Steam.

About the game:

Capture17.JPG

The sound of dirt crumbling echos through the underground tunnels. Your tiny mandibles loosen debris from the walls. It is your duty to create the fortress and home for both yourself and all the ant sisters of your colony. Eggs, babies, workers, food, the royal queen herself; such precious life is guarded by this fortress from the trials and dangers of the surface, just millimeters above.

But underground we cannot live forever. Food from the surface must be found and gathered to our underground hold. Sugar is easy enough to find among the trash that humans litter on the ground. Worker ants thrive on sugar. They will work all day gathering more food, tending the eggs and babies, watching after the care of the queen. Soldiers, however, require protein to grow into the gladiators they are. It will be up to you and the bravest of the ant worriers to hunt the wild creatures of the tall grasslands. Pill bugs (rolly poly) are easy enough to take down. Heavy plates of armor make the beast slow. Our sharp jaws eventually find their way through the shell. Times seem bountiful, but watch the shadows. Spiders lurk there. They are many times larger than our soldiers, and they are hungry for our food as well.

Ant Survival:

  • CARE FOR YOUR BROOD - The young are our future. You must carry the eggs to nursery chambers. When they hatch, they will need to be fed. Feed them sugar to grow into a worker, and protein for a soldier. Later this job can be taken over by your worker ants,  freeing you to explore and find more food.

  • EXPLORE FOR RESOURCES - Every time you play a round of Ant Simulator, a new vast world is randomly generated. Ants can climb around, upside down, and on anything. When you or your fellow ants find food, you must carry news of your new found bounty to the colony through trails of pheromones. Only your ants can smell this secret scent map. Be prepared, news of danger must also travel along this path. By the time the news of danger pheromones reaches your colony, it may already be too late.
  • BUILD AN UNDERGROUND ARMY - You have been given the gift of skillful excavation. Dig tunnels deep into the earth. The tunnels of your custom stronghold can go up, down, left, diagonal, out, around, and in any way your mandibles can manage. Keep a watchful eye over your ant guard. They will take orders from you, and it will be up to your strategy to keep the colony safe.

About The Developers:

Ant Simulator was originally created for a 48 hour game jam contest called Ludum Dare. After this one-man-built game was created in less than 48 hours, it seemed to catch the interest of many gamers around the internet. So much so that the game was played nearly 100,000 times and now has over 200 "Let's Plays" on YouTube. Upon seeing the number of plays and the overwhelming number of people telling us we should turn this into a full game, we decided that we are going to do just that. We began work on programming in the Unity engine. All of our artists reached out to us in response to a few videos that we posted on YouTube. Our global team operates across 4 out of the 5 continents and consists of 9 passionate indie developers. We are working hard every day to bring you the most advanced and realistic ant game of this generation!
