Your federal tax return can't be processed without a mailing address.

My point is, why is homelessness even an option, if by definition a homeless person usually won't have an address?

Contact your nearest post office and ask about setting up a general delivery address; this is where the post office will hold your mail behind the counter for you to pick up.

Is there some place that you can reliably get your mail? Do you have family or friends that can receive mail on your behalf? Even if they don't live nearby, they can receive it and read it aloud to you over the phone.

I can probably rent a po box for a few months, shouldn't be too bad.

That's good to hear. Another option, if you're in a position to do so, is possibly getting it sent to wherever you work. I know that my coworkers and I would regularly have packages delivered to us at the office.

You could also try getting in touch with a shelter in the area or a homeless services non-profit. I know that some in my area will receive mail on behalf of homeless folks in the area and hold on to it for a week or more until those people stop by to pick it up.

A homeless person has no physical address, and may have access to a PO Box or other resource.

There are some charities where I live that offer services to homeless people, including letting them use the charity's location as their mailing address.
