Why am I doing it, despite knowing that it would hurt our economy somewhat, the major component of which is software services? Because I don't like wars and would prefer a cleaner world. If you're outside of US and have a similar view (or any view that matches Bernie's, then do it).
You only need 3 minutes to get started, everything is in one place: https://go.berniesanders.com/page/content/phonebank
1) fill a very short form
2) check email for login details
3) read dialer guide, brief version here but read in full (Less than 10 minutes) if anything is not clear. Check times on https://go.berniesanders.com/page/content/phonebank for the state you want to talk to. The dialer only works at right times by itself.
3a) Use firefox/chrome- go to http://bernie.to/dial
3b) login. Use (state for which you're calling)_dial as the role. there would be a popup warning once you're successful, set it to "always allow popups from that website". don't close any window
3c) Dial the number that appears on screen
3d) preferably print, otherwise have in an easily accessible window the user script. Read it carefully once
3e) Think about what change you'd like to see in the world and motivate yourself. And remember your best manners. get ready for war
3f) Before you the next steps, remember:
3f1) as soon as you hear a beep, you need to talk. You can just repeat the dialer script. Imagine that hello has already been said.
3f2) DO NOT disconnect the actual phone you are calling from. If you need to end the call, there's a button on your screen to end call.
3g) In the left-top, click the "not-ready" dropdown and set yourself to "ready". GO
3h) Call over? Hit the "End call" button. Pick the appropriate response on the screen under the "other"/"canvassing" dropdowns- wrong number/not home/strong bernie/lean bernie
3i) Once you do, the popup will ask if you are ready for the next call. Okay to wait here for a bit. Or just set yourself to not-ready and hit ready again later when you are.
Remember, you wouldn't always find some Hillary supporter whom you've convinced to become Bernie supporter. Your primary goal is to find who are already supporting Bernie (and gently nudge undecided people to find out more about Bernie). This is so that on caucus day, the team can go and pick them up or talk face to face.
You now have no excuse to not phonebank. But but but, Bernie is already winning!!
There is no such thing as "winning". Dem primaries are proportional. See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SandersForPresident/comments/426fi0/bernie_is_not_leading_clinton_in_iowa/cz87tvp
Even if Bernie "wins" by 60-40, Hillary will get 4 out of 10 delegates and Bernie 6. And the news you'll hear is: Hillary does it again, holds here fort against all odds, huge favorite for South Carolina. So make sure its a landslide. Having phonebanked for SC too, I can say Clinton is far ahead there, with strong support. Obama was different because SC was favouring him more and media had nothing against him- Bernie is different, no SC support and no media support. I don't follow US media much but the way our media treats our govt now and right before elections, I can guarantee you its going to be a major fight till the very end.
International callers- see if https://zenvpn.net/en/vpn-locations/india/ works for you. If so, skype India -> US calls are free.
EDIT: I've replied to every one of your comments but since this account is new they don't show up. I may not try again, sorry
Also, those who raised concern about my accent, https://www.reddit.com/r/SandersForPresident/comments/42a8zi/i_am_an_indian_living_in_india_and_phonebanking/cz8yla6 So I assume I come off as an Indian college student and not cheap tech support.
Thanks for the responses. Just doing my bit. If you didn't read my post- TLDR: 1) Phonebank 2) No such thing as winning, distribution is proportional. We need a shocker in Iowa to get SC
EDIT2: I've rethought based on suggestions from /u/mahakali_overdrive2 and /u/sniggletypuss I will find other ways to help in the white majority states and may call again later for the states with good Indian population. Thanks again for your kind responses.

Fellow Indian from India here. Would you say the accent is a real problem to phonebank? That's the one major reason I have not phonebanked yet because as much as I'd love to help Bernie win, I cant cause any detriment because of people who are put off by my voice or who cannot understand me.
[–]kcman011Texas 35 points36 points37 points  (0 children)
Honestly, this was/is concerning to me, also. Not to be disparaging, but there are a LOT of Americans that either balk or straight up hang up on Indian/Filipino callers because of the outsourcing that many American companies do to those countries.
I'm glad that OP is putting himself out there, though. That's very admirable! I wouldn't mind getting a call from him/her.
[–]OP IndianBernieSupporte[S] 17 points18 points19 points  (1 child)
I think as /u/kcman011 said. Having lived in US briefly and talking quite a bit due to the nature of my job, I apparently sound "american desi" according to my cousins but if you have a strong indian accent, you may want to help out in other ways. I believe there is a phonebanking where you only call other volunteers.

Yup it's called ground control which is organize.bernieSanders.Com
[–]ddecoywi 2 points3 points4 points  (4 children)
I wouldn't worry about your accent so much as you not being an American citizen who doesn't live here. I'm an American in America and a big Bernie supporter. But it makes me very uncomfortable that foreign non US citizens influence our elections.
[–]TheOriginalSoni2 0 points1 point2 points  (3 children)
Fair point.
One thing like to point out is how similar this is to how the US government actually ends up affecting (directly or indirectly) every election in the world, although on a different scale. In India, the entire stance with the US government on several platform (foreign policy, nuclear power, MNCs etc) was actually one of the major points of contention during election season (Might be much larger for smaller or more involved countries).
So I think you could say this is just a byproduct of the global world we live in. Affecting each other's countries happen one way or another anyway.
[–]ddecoywi 1 point2 points3 points  (2 children)
Thanks for reply. I definitely understand that American politics affect the rest of the world and vice versa. If I were a citizen of a different country I know I would have an interest in the outcomes of American elections. I guess this just brings up a lot of questions about sovereignty of a modern nation state in a globalized world. Like how can we make sense of having integrity within a national election while having a global worldview? I don't know what the right answer is, but I just don't want to give any critic of Bernie any doubts about his integrity. I admit that I have a lot of "frontier individualism" behind my attitudes on this topic that may be outdated. But it's an honest feeling that I know a lot of other Americans have, and I would be remiss if I didn't bring it up here. But I am glad that people around the world are feelin the Bern!
[–]TheOriginalSoni2 1 point2 points3 points  (1 child)
I don't know what the right answer is, but I just don't want to give any critic of Bernie any doubts about his integrity.
Makes sense to me. Another additional reason for me to only work on keeping the sub positive and focused. Nobody can blame me if all I'm doing is help spread information to people and help make sure the real voters are motivated here.
[–]ddecoywi 1 point2 points3 points  (0 children)
Absolutely, this is a great sub!

I'm a little concerned about foreigners influencing our political process.as mild as this may be.
[–]BeautifulDuwang -5 points-4 points-3 points  (1 child)
Why? All they're doing is potentially changing minds. Doesn't everyone have a right to do that?
[–]TheApatheist 4 points5 points6 points  (0 children)
But for what purpose would a European want someone to be US president? I have my reasons, some of which are directly related to the European situation. According to that logic, do I have the right to call for republicans/Clinton because they are more likely than Sanders to keep the local US military base open, keeping employment in this corner of Belgium up? My motivations can be contrary to what's best for America.
Therefore I find it's not my place and personally, if I'd find out I'd be called by a foreigner, I might react by especially not voting for them because of being suspicious. It could be counterproductive. US residency should be a minimum requirement to do anything in this campaign as a non-citizen. It's what I would expect here as well.
I do support Sanders, but I'm looking at from a Euro-perspective as well: a bit scared of US withdrawal being part of his policy causing us to have to raise taxes for more military upkeep and investment ourselves, positive of global implications of social democracy taking hold in the US in a possible future global fight against tax havens and multinational tax weasling which could cause more fair taxation to be possible here as well. These are not main motivations an Americans should take into account.

Hey mate! Australian here, you've convinced me! What are you using to call the US? And are you spending much money? Cheers Legend!
[–]Buck-NastyNorth America 5 points6 points7 points  (2 children)
You can use Gmail to make free calls to the US. You might need to use a free VPN service like dotvpn on Chrome, just set your location to the US and you're good to go.
In the bottom left corner of your Gmail page there's a little phone button that will let you start making calls.
[–]_fifthofjulySingapore - Bernie Squad - Call Team Mentor 2 points3 points4 points  (1 child)
I never thought of this, but using VPN is a darn good idea. Thanks, this might make things easier for some on the international call team.
[–]For2016 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
Using Google Hangout all calls to US are free. No VPN necessity
[–]OP IndianBernieSupporte[S] 10 points11 points12 points  (0 children)
skype india ->us is free :-)
[–]_fifthofjulySingapore - Bernie Squad - Call Team Mentor 2 points3 points4 points  (0 children)
If you can make it work, definitely try the Gmail VPN option. (Heck, let me know if it works so I can let other international callers know.) If not, Skype has a month long worldwide unlimited trial. They're not too expensive, but you could try Nymgo which has really low rates. I've not tested their call quality though.
Also, feel free to join us on Slack. We'd love to have you on Team International!
[–]For2016 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
Google Hangout also allows calling the US for free. No VPN necessary

I know you mean well but I'm not so sure this is a good thing. People might assume Bernie is using some cheap telemarketing company in India.
(It's not just you. I'd hesitate to call the south, because of the negative associations people might have with my dialect.)

[–]Leftspace 17 points18 points19 points  (6 children)
I have been thinking of this issue, as a British person living in Britain, with absolutely no connection with America and never even visited it, and with no plans to visit either. However, as a citizen of planet earth, I know I am affected greatly by US politics. I want Bernie to win the nomination, and become the next president despite how right wing he is compared to me and the many differences I have with him.
However, it seems odd to me that foreigners (such as me) could legitimately phone people in the US on internal US politics. What do US citizens think of the ethics of me contacting them? Does the issue even come up? What have other people found?
ps - My daughter went on Camp America trip last year and is going again this summer.
[–]penguished 6 points7 points8 points  (0 children)
What do US citizens think of the ethics of me contacting them?
It's ethical of course for you to contact anyone.
But on the broader issue of the CAMPAIGN for a US election... I would honestly have to say that international phone banking is somewhat questionable. You could give the wrong impression that Bernie is somehow losing badly and only has foreign support or he has paid international callers, or whatever. As far as perception to me it seems like the important thing is that actual American Bernie supporters are connecting to other Americans and really showing each other the power of the grassroots. That's just my two cents.
Sorry if it sounds harsh but I'm trying to be pragmatic here.
[–]melonspice 7 points8 points9 points  (0 children)
Personally, I'd just think you were an immigrant because it's absurd to me that a foreigner would phone bank in any election for any country. It's a smaller scale version of the US messing around in other countries and imposing foreign policy.
[–]OP IndianBernieSupporte[S] 4 points5 points6 points  (0 children)
If you feel bad, just ask for which candidate they are supporting, and do nothing else. No persuasion etc. In my post, I've mentioned the major goals of phone banking. Check on the slack team though
[–]I_enjoymyprivacy 0 points1 point2 points  (1 child)
I used to live in Taiwan, where I met my husband. The situation is not entirely analagous esp. considering they don't recognize our marriage there. However, I would often have political discussions with people there, with cab drivers, shop owners, whomever. They were really complimented that I took an interest in their political system. Taiwanese are very politically active. The situation is much more murky for an American living in Taiwan. Taiwan is the 10th largest economy, but it does not affect American policy. However, America has an enormous impact on every country. What America does affects Britain, affects China, affects Taiwan. It's very easy to make the case that I should not intervene in Taiwanese politics, but I cannot for the life of me understand any legitimate rationale for a Taiwanese not to intervene in American politics. In my opinion, democracy means representing your interests. I don't believe democracy stops at border's edge. Some people may not like you calling, just as some people don't like my position on x, y, and z. That's what democracy is.
There is a separate rational I find most compelling. Multinational Corporate interests do not care about sovereignty. Are we really fighting separate battles confined within shapes on a map, between imaginary lines marking "I am this. You are that." Or are we citizens of the world, people who share common interests, battling forces that know no borders. The world is not run by countries. The world is run by banks and multinationals. I do not believe our geographic separation should separate our ability to work together and represent our interests.
[–]sniggletypuss 0 points1 point2 points  (0 children)
I agree. If the multinationals get a global interest, so should we.
[–]cypherreddit -2 points-1 points0 points  (0 children)
"When it comes to Al Qaeda's actual attempts to intervene in the 2004 election campaign, we recoil; when it comes to Chinese labor activists attempting to gain a voice in American foreign policy toward China, we might cheer them on. While the perceived legitimacy of each of these groups' interests varies a great deal, they take similar approaches to extraterritorial electioneering. In each case, a group represents foreign interests that are not necessarily represented by a foreign government. In both cases the foreign policy preferred by these groups is not the contemporary foreign policy of the United States. The interests cutting in favor of allowing extraterritorial electioneering and those opposed are very similar: interests in self-government and free speech."
[–]It_is_THAN 9 points10 points11 points  (1 child)
Please don't do this. If a foreign sounding guy calls me to vote for a candidate, I would most likely not vote for that candidate.

First, thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for giving a shit about our planet enough to do this thing. It's incredibly kind and thoughtful of you. I am blown away by your capacity for love.
Just one bit of caution for our foreign brothers and sisters. A strong Asian or Indian accent on the phone is associated with one thing and one thing only in America: Shitty tech support/customer service. So if you have a strong native accent, you may actually be doing more harm than good especially when calling predominantly rural folks.
The Irish, Aussie, English, and Scots accents are just the other way around. You could flat call people's grandmothers out on the lawn and they'd probably shove her out the door just to listen to you talk.
Most other accents are neutral as long as Americans consider you "easy to understand". If you don't know if you're easy to understand, call some fellow phone bankers and get a gut check before starting. It's OK if the answer is no, there are tons of other ways to help. :)

Call states with higher Indian populations. My name is common in India, and when I have phone banked, my name is questioned and in many places, liked (note: I am not Indian; my parents lived in India though): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Americans
NJ, NY, Illinois, CA, Maryland, VA, CT, Delaware -- higher Asian Indian populations -- link also lists metro areas that are heavily East Asian. I live near one of the biggest Asian Indian pop. in the U.S. and there is just not bigotry here like in other places.

Please don't. It's nice. But most americans will have a bad reaction to foreigners getting involved in our elections. You'll likely do more harm than good.

wow, that's amazing buddy, thanks. I am a 'Sri-Lankan' living in Canada now for 25+ years, still got a very strong accent, but your dedication is encouraging me to make few calls. Lets get Bernie elected, he is good for america and he is good for the world, especially considering 50% of world's population own as much as 62 rich individuals. Bernie's message is a threat to oligarchies around the world, whose corruption and greed is destroying humanity. Thanks.

I've rethought and I'm going to find other ways to help. The accent could be a problem

Thank you so much! I think that is great. Are you able to reach pockets of Indian voters too? We have plenty here in California, but we're not voting yet. Go Team Sanders -- India Division.
My first name is Muslim, but I'm not Muslim. I use a different first name in some states where I know people wouldn't like it so much, and in others, my name was a great conversation starter :)

I called SC and Iowa so from what I gather from accents, "european americans", african-americans and latinos ("mexican-americans"?)
