セウォル号沈没事故で生き残った生徒の卒業式に、犠牲者の親が贈ったメッセージ(全文)
2014年4月に韓国で起きた大型旅客船「セウォル号」の沈没事故。300人以上の犠牲者・行方不明者のほとんどは、修学旅行で乗船していたソウル近郊の檀園高校2年生と教職員だった。
あれから1年9カ月がたち、生き残った83人の生徒たちが、1月12日、卒業式を迎えた。
犠牲になった生徒の親の一人は、門出を迎えた我が子の友達に、Facebookでお祝いのメッセージを贈った。

「何て言っていいか分かりません。自分の子の卒業式に父母として出席すると思っていたのに、それが当然と思っていたのに。20歳になったときに我が子の姿を見て、満足さと不安が入り交じる平凡な父母だと思っていたのに、卒業式がとてもうらやましい父母になってしまいました。
でも私たちはいつからか、今日卒業する83人の皆さんが、我が子のように育ってくれることを願うようになりました。
皆さんは、我が子の夢を分かち合っていた友達だから。
皆さんは、我が子の最後の瞬間をともにした友達だから。
みなさんは、我が子のことを、父母よりも長く覚えていてくれる友達だから。
あれから637日、とても寂しく苦しい道を歩んできてくれてありがとう。
本当に苦しかったでしょう。たくさん泣いたでしょう。
大人たちが起こした事故の片隅で、自力で脱出したことが罪なのかと、この社会がみなさんにしたことを、私たち父母はみんなきちんと覚えています。今後もひるまないでください。自分を責めることもしないでください。みなさんのせいではないこと、よく分かっているでしょう。
これからみなさんに待ち受ける困難も多いことでしょう。行く先々で聞かれることでしょう。特別扱いしようとする人もいるでしょう。いつでも、どこでも、堂々と明るく自信を持ってください。星になった250人の友達と12人の先生が、いつでも皆さんを見守っていますから。
星になった友達と先生が、みなさんの重荷となり、忘れたい記憶でないことを願っています。
星になった友達と先生は、皆さんを応援して力をくれる天使の友達、天使の先生です。
星になった友達のかわりに、もっと頑張って生きようと思う必要もありません。ただみなさんが夢見る人生に最善を尽くして、堂々と生きてください。みなさんの人生の中に、星になった友達と先生は明るく笑っていますから。
みなさんにお願いしたいことが一つだけあります。
私たちのように、愚かで馬鹿な大人にはならないでください。絶対に。
みなさんは私たちのように、子供を亡くしてからようやく、何が間違いだったのか気づくような大人になってはいけません。絶対に。
我が子を見つめる心情で、これから皆さんが進む道を応援します。
そして皆さんが経験したあのこと、皆さんの友達が亡くなったあの出来事の真実を必ず見つけ出します。たまには皆さんも私たち父母を応援して下さい。
みなさんの卒業を本当に、本当にお祝いします。
