Well, I mean... Nobody really watched them. Not much of a surprise.

When my dad learned they existed, he was confused as hell. Actually thought they were a terrorist group at first.

So did my father and most of the right wing portion of my family. When i tried to explain to them what it was, for weeks they gave me the stink eye until they realized I was not a converted Tusken Raider.

I see these comments all the time but ive never met any of these "right wingers" that appear to be so well known on reddit

[–]Tmscott [

Does your grandma/weird uncle have your email, do you read anything forwarded by them?

My grandmother shares like 10 Occupy Democrat posts a day on Facebook...

Have you ever been on Facebook?

Lol, my facebook is littered with feelgood washed up college liberal normies.

Facebook front page is different for everyone you know

I have a dude on my facebook who wan'ts to be a cop, and I think he is currently an armed security guard. He literally posts stuff saying he wants to shoot/kill muslims. Somehow hasn't gotten in any legal trouble, and maintains relationships with police. The dudes pretty much your stereotypical crazy right winger, except he is gay, but he hates trannies and thinks that they should be killed as well.

That's quite the little niche he's carved out for himself, there. I'm picturing a fabulous gay hitler.

In my facebook I get bombarded with Sanders and occupydemocrats spam everyday. I swear their shitposts are buzzfeed level bad. Just today I was in an argument with someone who shared one of these shitposts because I was so tired of seeing this bullshit on the front page.

Also, the Donald Trump = Hitler comparisons are unironically being posted, oh and by the way I saw someone yesterday write off the Refugee rape of cologne as Germany's fault for not integrating them well or something.

Facebook looks like Democratic Underground for me, a bunch of blue pilled SJW's whining about what offends them more and how everyone who isn't a red blooded communist is evil and should be executed.

On the bright side, his background check will be over pretty quick

I'm blessed to have a Facebook cluttered by right-wingers from different countries. It makes for an odd yet entertaining environment...

yes all the time, i have yet to see any posts like everyone is talking about.

I grew up in West Virginia. I can co firm these people are indeed real.

Christ, I'm in Texas and I'm surrounded by them on a daily basis.

You poor bastard.

I've never lived in Texas, but I've spent some time there. The stereotype of the "Texas right winger" is a very real thing, and it is scary as fuck. Not everyone is like that, of course, but some are.

Hell, I live in Colorado now and it is very much a thing. You'd think a state with legal Marijuana wouldn't be so uptight.

They are super common if you live in a conservative area. I'm from suburban Texas, and I can confirm that these sorts of views are totally normal. I live in Northern California now, and I wouldn't believe these people were common if I hadn't met so many already.

[–]email_optional_ [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

About a week ago I saw someone on reddit claim that right wingers were complaining about Paul Ryan's beard, claiming it was "Muslimish." I spend a decent amount of time browsing conservative leaning subreddits and websites, and I talk to other conservative minded people regularly but that was my first and only time hearing about his beard lol.

Do you converse with people older than 55 on a regular basis? If not that might be why. Members of my family who represent the right wing are all older than I am. I am an only child in a family filled with ultra conservatives and borderline tea-party nutters. Meanwhile I just try to keep an open mind and take this sort of stuff as it comes to me.

Once Al Jazeera America completed their mission of embarrassing Middle America's greatest sports hero there was no reason to continue the operation.

Al Jazeera America averaged 19,000 viewers in 2015. The video of a puddle currently has almost 20,000.

Great! We can get the English live stream again!

CNN is claiming that it's because of low oil prices. Supposedly, the company that owns Al Jazeera America is in turn owned by Qatar. They've also faced lawsuits about sexism and anti-semitism in the work environment.

What is supposedly about it? The government of Qatar owns the media group.

You mean the saints who bribed their way to the World Cup and employ slave labor? Surely not.

And were assisted by Hillary Clinton after donating to the client ton foundation? No way!

Those were the only two bad things they ever did though!

It could be true. Al Jazeera is a propaganda channel run by Qatar to bolster its government. The American branch is an attempt to spread pro-Qatar views in to the English speaking world. Similar to RT for Russia, or Radio Free Europe for the US. Given the crazy lower viewership they must have been spending a lot of money keeping it a float. With the oil prices down they may have concluded that the money isn't worth the small number of viewers they are influencing.

RT for Russia

I watch this from time to time....it really is slandered against US. But not in a Jihadist kind of way like Al Jazeera.

Dozens of viewers will be sad, dozens!

I'm one of those dozens!

So am I. Al Jazeera English was a fantastic news source, as long as they weren't commenting on anything regarding the Saudi Royal Family.

Al Jazeera English isn't going anywhere, it's entirely separate from Al Jazeera America.

So if AJA shuts down because its owners are losing money due to oil prices, when does RT shut down?

I really enjoyed watching them. At the very least, they offered a different perspective on the news. This is too bad.

They covered important things that the other networks buried. This is a sad day for Democracy.

Probably should have rebranded under a different name.

"Sexy Live Action News 24/7!" has a nice ring to it.

What does this mean for beinsports USA? Formerly Al Jazeera sports

Nothing. For now it seems only the news channel is concerned by this decision.

The people that might have actually been interested in Al Jazeera (young people) don't watch television news anyway.

It's too bad they didn't get more viewership. One of the better sources of news on American cable TV.

Their online stuff was great, but I have no idea about the TV which might have been the problem.

Yeah when Al Jazeera falsely accused Israel of opening "dam gates" on the Palestinians, that was great!

I was a VERY good station. I watched nearly every day. The coverage was great. The name was unfortunate though.

Why was the name unfortunate?

Some americans can't deal with middle eastern sounding names. 'Al's news" sounds less nine-eleveny to them then 'Al Jazeera News'.

I agree. I have access to both their 'International' and 'America' channels. I like them both (from time to time when I listen to news), they're far better than CNN or BBC International.

At least I now have BBC World News on DirecTV.

along with a pair of lawsuits from former employees that included complaints about sexism and anti-Semitism at the news channel.

I wonder why that would be...

When I was first heard of Al Jazeera was right after 9/11 and I thought they were Al Qaeda's like personal news network, lol. Even after I knew they weren't, I always associated them with evil for no good reason.

They were smeared a lot by the American right wing. After the U.S. invaded Iraq, instead of focusing coverage on the glorious liberators (the American soldiers), Al Jazeera instead reported on children who died in bombings, torture at Abu Ghraib and other prisons, and general ongoing violence. The Fox News types saw this as a betrayal after we brought Iraq the gift of American Freedom. That's why Al Jazeera still has a bad reputation, at least in the U.S.

This is actually quite annoying to hear. Probably one of the few legitimate news channels. They also had really great informational pieces in general.

This is more about the US saying no to Qatar than it is to a network nobody domestically has any interest in.

Sorry for all those that lost their jobs. The good news is Al Jazeera English will no longer be blocked in the US. I should be able to live stream Al Jazeera English again

Just think about all of those oil dollars that they gave to Al Gore to buy his channel. All for nothing.

That's too bad. It is the best cable news channel in America. They are generally way more unbiased than any of the other outlets.

Which is really unfortunate. All their stuff that wasn't about Muslims was pretty unbiased. A much better source than NBC, FOX, or CNN.

As long as they keep writing I don't mind. I wish they were more popular.

Ooo no how will we all survive???

good, we should do the same to the terror funders at CAIR as well.

Good. Glad they shut down. I don't want my "news" biased by a foreign state and middle-eastern money. I'll stick to my "news" biased by billionaire owners and jew money, thank you. /s

Any idea if we'll be able to watch online again? They cut their stream for the U.S. once their cable network went online.

I’m surprised by the reported lack of ratings. On weekends I’d use the Verizon fios app to see what others are watching and Al Jazeera news was frequently in the top 10. Far behind Fox News but there were definitely thousands watching. They’d have interesting programs showing the draught in Cali, police troubles, and other domestic concerns the other news channels wouldn’t mention.

Al Jazeera Media plans to expand its "international digital services to broaden its multi-platform presence in the United States," Souag wrote.

The closure of their cable news outlet will not affect their business overall in America. In fact, they plan to grow their footprint in the US, regardless of this TV news shut-down.I

Al Jazeera America, the American cable news outlet owned by Qatar-based Al Jazeera, plans to shut down less than three years after its much-ballyhooed launch, unable to overcome low ratings, operational problems and a lack of advertisers.

All that ballhoo for nothing.

I don't particularly care about Al Jazeera itself but I do wish they'd been more successful here. Then, maybe, some of the other more popular networks would have copied their less bombastic style. Their going down probably vindicates the LOUD NOISES style of their rivals

Their mistake was using a jihadist name. They should have called it AJ 24/7 like RT....hardly anyone who stumbles upon RT knows its Russia Today.

Al Jazeera was criticized for its anti-Western and anti-Semitic bias. "Al Jazeera officials have denied consistently that the company was anti-Western". Maybe just an error in editing. Then again, maybe not.

finally more time for my honey boo boo and other "reality" shows!

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was cancelled in 2014

Watching that show sucked out so much of their IQ that they probably just don't realize its gone.

Hey at least Al Gore got paid. Anyone have the final number on what he donated to climate change from the sale of Current?

This is what happens when you try to bring fair and unbiased news that challenges the American brainwashing machine known as the mainstream media. I hope they don't shut down their online news model, they had some amazing pieces that you won't see anywhere else.

Now if only Russia Today (RT) would too

This sucks, I enjoyed their programming.

I would watch every day if SlingTV carried them. I suppose it'll be okay because they will go back to streaming AlJazeera English on the App.

I never watched whatever channel they were on, but I do use their website for slightly less spun news.

So it's down to Fox, MSNBC (Fox Left), and CNN. The poor American people who don't internet good and want to learn to do other stuff good too!

Not surprising. Considering how rampant racism and ignorance is in America is, it's a shock they've lasted this long with that name.

[–]just_your_mother [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I dunno if the average American is that ignorant and racist but I bet you could find 1:4 easily who can't read past a 6th grade level.
