Japan to further examine N.Korean video of missile

Japan

Japan's Defense Minister says his ministry is carefully examining a North Korean video that appears to show a submarine-based ballistic missile test.

Gen Nakatani was speaking at a news conference near Tokyo on Sunday.

North Korea's state-run TV aired the footage on Friday as part of a documentary on leader Kim Jong Un's activities last month. The footage shows a missile being launched from a submarine and rising into the sky.

Nakatani told reporters that North Korea is apparently still developing submarine-based ballistic missiles.

He said the footage indicates that the North has improved its launching technology since it conducted a similar test last year.

In a statement broadcast by state TV on Sunday, Kim justified his country's 4th nuclear test, calling it a self-defensive step.

Nakatani said the North's latest nuclear test totally violated UN Security Council resolutions. He said the Japanese government is concerned that the test harmed the peace and stability of the region.
