...this is considered technically an HD remake right? The comparison photos between this and emulated have a pretty noticeable difference outside of the prerendered backgrounds. Which also look a bit sharper anyway.

If it used the original HD backgrounds that would really be something.

Hopefully it runs better than it did on PSX. But even though it's my favortie FF, I don't think I'll bother buying or playing it again. Happy for those who get to try it for the first time, though.

Im a little disappointed that they arent adding any content to this game. Not surprised, but I was hoping against hope that there would at least be some gbaff-style end dungeons or some more story for freya and amarant or something. Its my favourite too, but every time I go to emulate it I intend to go for a 100% run.

Then I remember fucking everything is missable and I'd have to have a guide open all the time to get everything. Plus the timed special boss which I'd have to do another speedrun just to get.

I love the game but the missables are insane.

I'm all in for Smartphone generation to play good games but it's really not something to lose your heads over. Play it if you never did but it doesn't look like a port i would recommend. Just emulate the original.

I've been wanting to replay it so hopefully this time the loading screens won't make up about 10 hours of playtime.

Maybe it's just me, but the Steam screenshots look really sharp. I remember the game being a muddy pixel-mess, but this looks good and doesn't have the blurriness of the FFVIII port.

I replayed it only a few months ago. I only had two major gripes with it, the first being the combat speed, the second being that there is absolutely no way to turn off/decrease the random encounters or the random encounter rate. VI/VII/VIII/X all had ways to do so. With IX you're stuck with it the way it is, and combined with the slow combat speed it could be very annoying.

Otherwise it was still a great game overall.

Ask Konami, they threw away the source code for all Silent Hill games and when it came time to pump out a trendy HD collection, they had to give the devs non-bugfixed builds, basically several months unpolished from the retail version

In case you don't know, the guys who worked on MGS HD used the original PS2 discs and reverse engineered them to make the new version. Konami could've just hired these guys again to do the same for Silent Hill.

I've never played FF9 past when you arrive at Lindblum, but it's my 18 year-old little brother's all-time favourite game (he played IX and I played VII.) I always said the game was almost unplayable for me due to how slow the battles were, but I always fucking adored the music and the design, so I'm super stoked to playing it on PC.

The only things I remember about FF9 are that black mage village having awesome music, some annoying as fuck water snake boss and those annoying mimic enemies Kuja forces you to fight when you get kidnapped by him.

I'm pretty sure I replayed it last year, it's just the most forgettable Final Fantasy game ever.

IX was a bad Final Fantasy. It had absolutely terrible equipment, skill, and ability systems that allowed no room for players to shape their characters in any way. The trance system going off outside of your control was even worse designed than VIII's limit spamming. The combat was slow and boring and the only interesting mechanic AT ALL was the dynamic between Steiner and Vivi, and it didn't really add anything to the game at all. It had a terribly boring setting that's only praised by "classic fans" because it didn't emphasize sci-fi, completely disregarding that Final Fantasy has used sci-fi elements from the start of the series. Your cast consisted of characters like Freya who were completely forgotten by the plot after their usefulness to the story was up, characters like Quina who basically just showed up whenever the game felt you needed a 4th party member and didn't do ANYTHING of any relevance, and characters like Amarant who I'm still trying to figure out why he was added to the game. The protagonist and antagonist being "space alien grim reaper brothers" is by far the worst plot twist in the series, much worse than either the orphanage in VIII or "You're a dream Teedus" could ever hope to be.

The worst part of all? In a series that's known for its innovation in its genre, Final Fantasy IX bitched out and actively BACKTRACKED to boring, outdated, mechanics. At least the early games it was a callback to were innovations of their time like the ATB system in IV, and at least for the PSX titles VII, VIII, and Tactics all tried to do new things with turn-based RPGs, storytelling, and world building even if it didn't please everyone- whereas IX actively decided to say fuck that, and appeal to idiots who want video games to stagnate.

It was boring and had nothing unique going for it. In fact, nothing about the game is particularly memorable. It has no sense of identity for itself and just takes after previous titles.

Zidane should have been the main villain of FFIX, after all Zidane was designed to be an "Angel of Death" to be send to Gaia to incite war and destruction just like Kuja was. The game could have progressed pretty much the way it does now all the way to the "you are not alone" scene where Zidane would now pick up his intended role and the rest of the party would have to beat him, Kuja and Garland up to save both Gaia and Terra from them.

Also to fags that believe that Zidane and Garnet live happily ever after after the events of FFIX:
Kuja is an Angel of Death genome, created with the sole purpose of funneling souls to Terra by sowing warfare. As such, he's given powerful combat abilities and installed with a life limiter in case he turns traitor. Zidane is created as a replacement for Kuja, for the exact same reason, and it would be fucking idiotic for Garland not to limit him in the same way. The only evidence for him not having a life limiter is Garland telling him he doesn't, in the same speech when he lies about two other things, and is aware Kuja went off the rails when he found out about his limiter, so the smart thing to do would be to lie. Garland has a replacement unit for Zidane already lined up and ready to go. Assuming the limiter kicks in at the same age, and taking Kuja and Zidane's ages into account, the maximum Zidane has to live post ending is around 3 years.

Finally the entire theme of the game is that nothing lasts forever, it's seen in Vivi, Terra, etc.
