More than two billion people will be using mobile devices to access the Internet in 2016, according to research firm IDC.
調査会社である IDC によると、2016年のインターネットは、20億台以上のモバイル･デバイスからアクセスされるようだ。
The combination of lower-cost devices and inexpensive wireless networks are making accessibility easier in countries with populations that could not previously afford them. China, India, and Indonesia are leading the way and will account for almost half of the gains in access globally over the course of the next five years.
低コストのデバイスと、安価なワイヤレス･ネットワークの組み合わせは、膨大な人口を抱えながらも、経済で遅れを取ってきた国々に、容易なインターネット･アクセスを提供しようとしている。このレースをリードしているのは China／India／Indonesia などであり、また、これから５年の間に、グローバル･アクセスの半分ほど占めるようになる。
“Over the next five years, global growth in the number of people accessing the Internet exclusively through mobile devices will grow by more than 25 percent per year while the amount of time we spend on them continues to grow. This change in the way we access the Internet is fueling explosive growth in mobile commerce and mobile advertising,” said Scott Strawn , Program Director, Strategic Advisory Service.
Strategic Advisory Service の Program Director である Scott Strawn は、「これからの５年において、モバイル･デバイスだけを用いて、インターネットにアクセスする人々の数は、年間で 25％ 以上というペースで成長していく。さらに言えば、それぞれの人々がインターネットに費やす時間も、増加し続けるというのが、グローバルにおける傾向となっている。このように、私たちのインターネット･アクセス形態が変化することで、モバイル･コマースとモバイル･アドの爆発的な成長に拍車が掛かっていく」と述べている。
Measuring what Internet users are doing online shows that many activities are enjoyed by billions of people.
インターネット･ユーザーたちが、オンラインで行っていることを調べてみると、多様な目的を実現する手段として、数十億もの人々がメリットを得ている状況が明らかになる。
For example, more than a billion people use the Internet to bank online, to stream music, and to find a job. More than two billion use email and read news online. And more people than ever before are making purchases online.
たとえば、10億以上の人々が、オンライン･バンキングや、音楽ストリーミング、そして仕事探しなどに、インターネットを使用している。また、20億以上の人々が、電子メールやオンライン･ニュースなどで、インターネットを使っている。そして、オンライン･ショッピングも、これまで以上に利用されるようになった。
In 2015, more than $100 billion will be spent online on each of the following categories: travel, books, CDs and DVDs, downloading apps, and online classes. These purchases are enabled by online payment platforms that are making payments, online and off, easier and more secure.
2015年が終わる時点で、オンラインにおける 旅行／書籍／CD･DVD／アプリ／教育といった分野で、$100 billion の対価が費やされているはずだ。そして、一連の購入は、オンラインとオフラインでの支払いを簡単かつ安全に実現する、オンライン･ペイメント･プラットフォームで決済されていく。
IDC said advertisers are recognizing this and shifting their spending accordingly. Almost all of the growth in advertising spending across all of its forms is attributable to the growth in mobile advertising and online video.
IDC が言うには、こうした変化を広告主も認識しており、それに応じて支出先をシフトしているようだ。すべての広告形態の中で、モバイル･アドとオンライン･ビデオだけが、成長しているという状況にあるのだ。
