America must be built on an Indian burial ground or something...

worst serial killers are from other countries, British doctor murdered 300 women 10 years ago, Russian serial killer killed 100, and Pedro Lopez murdered 300 kids in South America

compared to them, our serial killers are amateurs

I think there are a lot of cases that are not reported in the 3rd world countries.

Well then 76% of all reported incidents including those from all the other developed countries, that's still a fuck ton and probably not just a meaningless statistic.

I am not downplaying the US's issue, but merely pointing out that there are probably a ton of serial killers in the world that we don't know about.

Came here to point out the same flaw in statistics. It's almost scarier for the rest of the world.

Combine that with just how massive the USA really is compared to the rest of the world.

Actually its from better policing. It is not hard to have a serial killing in Europe because the different nations did not work together and travel between nations easy.

China and Russia both did not acknowledge the existance of communist serial killers till like the 80's.

And most serial killers in the US were doing it over vast areas so since states worked together they were able to find a pattern and see the killings were serial killers.

the existance of communist serial killers

Serial killers in communist society. Communist serial killers seems like they killed for Marx, Lenin, Mao etc.

Communist serial killers seems like they killed for Marx, Lenin, Mao etc.

Not really, serial killers and executioners/mass murderers already have different definitions.

Killed for, not is Marx.

Vasily Blokhin, chief executioner for Stalin. Someone who kills a lot of people for their regime is an executioner, not a serial killer.

Have I ever said that he was a serial killer? What are you even trying to convey here?

You said communist serial killers sound like they killed for a communist leader. I disagreed, that was all.

Larger area to operate in so patterns go unnoticed for longer, meaning they have the opportunity to become serial killers before getting caught? I mean here in the UK there are certainly people who kill and who would kill multiple times but they often seem to catch suspects pretty quickly. Could be a size thing? Or maybe the US has the facilities to better identify serial killers and other places might think multiple unsolved deaths aren't linked. Also I guess in the US you are kind of limited to the one country to work in with a more unified investigative force, whereas you could move around jurisdictions in Europe amd go unnoticed longer.

Either way, there won't be a higher degree of crazy murderers in the US than anywhere else

[–]Sympathy_for_the_FO 109ポイント110ポイント  (3子コメント)

...all known...

Because the Unites States actually catches its serial killers.

Or at least it thinks so.

And it records these instances, and it releases that information to the rest of the world.

Here is the sited source from Wikipedia, which, quite frankly, sounds like a propaganda piece, but not only that, goes out of it's way to argue the validity of it's claim instead of siting any real sources or research itself. So I'm basically calling bullshit.

Not to be a dick, but it's "citing", not "siting".

Ѕo does the data tell us that the UЅ has more serial killers or that thе US had much more sophisticated рolicing and detective work than other cоuntries during the same time period? Οr does it tell us that the US had bеtter record-keeping than other countries? Βlah, blah, blah.

Key word here is "known"- this is a reporting issue rather than an actual frequency issue.

[–]its_not_you_its_ye [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

It may be. There isn't enough to determine either way with certainty.

America is a weird society and culture and creates a lot of really messed up people

With our shit mental health care, I'm not terribly surprised.

or crappy enforcement of punishments. i'm sorry - but someone who is a serial killer just needs a bullet put in their foreheads after being found guilty. crazy or not.

As opposed to what? They don't exactly let them go after 5 years or anything

I'd imagine that there are several dynamics at play: First, the US is a very free and open society, with relatively little active state intrusion into everyday life providing a clever killer the ability to slip through the cracks for a time; second, the US has a fairly effective law enforcement system that engages in widespread information sharing, allowing for the identification of patterns and the sharing of evidence so we're also pretty good at finding them, or at least identifying when one is active.

Compare that to a closed society like the East Germany where deviance was actively tracked; or a less developed law enforcement infrastructure like that of Venezuela, where the police are corrupt and generally incompetent. It's not a surprise that the US has more serial killers who generally get caught after they go active.

Add this to the long list of things the USA is the best at!!! /s

Lol I love how the top comment is just some american explaining that this only proves that America is actually the best, because that just has to be the truth! Just like every single time any negative statistic about the states makes the front page.

Well, other developed countries aren't as fucked up, and less-developed countries have far less efficient police forces. So...this makes sense.

A friendly reminder that there are many countries out there on earth that have laws, police, detectives that are doing a great job in catching criminals or serial killers.

Don't think of it as a statistical flaw, reporting 76% of all serial killers from US could mean exactly that.

Well, to be fair they have more killers in general than most countries.

I thought 76% of everything in the 20th century was from the United States. That seems to be what they want us to believe, at least.

per capita or in absolute terms?

bit of a difference when the US has a population in numbers personal problems of Charlie Sheen

MURICA....

U.S.A.! U.S.A! U.S.A.!

yeah but the worst serial killers are from Britain, Russia, and South America

British Doctor murdered 300 women a few years ago

Chikilito of Russia killed 100

Pedro Lopez, "the Monster of the Andes", killed 300 children
