Activating the extension
Click on Extensions in the top menu, then tick the box next to Dropbox, and then click on the Close button. This will cause the page to reload, and from now on you have access to Dropbox options to save and load your maps.Saving a map to Dropbox
To save a map to Dropbox, or move an existing map to Dropbox, select File->Save As from the main menu, or click the storage type dropdown next to the top-right save button, then select Dropbox.
Authenticating with Dropbox
If you are not logged in to Dropbox in the current browser session, the pop-up window will first ask you to log in. It will then ask you to confirm (this is from the Dropbox side) that you want to allow MindMup to access your files. Please click on Allow.
The pop-up window should now close, and MindMup will continue with the operation that required authentication. If you tried to save a map, you should see that the top-right icon next to the Save button has now changed to Dropbox. This means that your map was successfully sent to Dropbox.
Removing Authentication
Loading a map from Dropbox
To load a map to Dropbox, select File->Open/Import from the main menu. A pop-up dialog will open with the files you stored to Dropbox. MindMup can only access maps in your Apps/MindMup folder, so if you want to make any offline maps available to yourself on MindMup, please upload them there first. You will be able to open MindMup (.mup) and Freemind (.mm) files directly.
Please note that changed FreeMind files will be saved in MindMup format.

When I try to save a file to Dropbox I see this notification: "There was a network problem communicating with the server. Please try again later. Don't worry [...]"
ReplyDeleteNow I'm saving to Google Drive, but I'd prefer saving to Dropbox because of its dedicated folder (It seems I MUST store my Mindmups in the root of Google Drive. Hate that!).
Hi Manja,
ReplyDeletecan you please send me an e-mail at contact@mindmup.com with some more information about the OS and the browser version you're using, and ideally a copy of the javascript console so we can troubleshoot.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI just discovered the DropBox option and this brought me very near to a solution where I can work with mindmup on my desktop and with iThoughts on my iPad which would be my absolutely preferred setup. But one little detail makes it fail: both tools have only the freemind format in common. But as mentioned above, mindmup will always save as mindmup. Can you imagine to make it an option, whether it is saved in freemind or mindmup, when it was a freemind document that has been opened? Or can you help me to find another way to close the gap between the both great tools (or offer an iPad app)?
Philip,
ReplyDeletewe're working on an ipad app at the moment. saving to freemind is not a good option as we have some unique map features that would not be preserved in a freemind export
Got a question... how would I send out a MM to my clients on their cellphones?
ReplyDeleteThank you in advance for considering my inquiry.
Rick - this depends on whether you want them to authenticate and/or edit it. if you want them to log on and you control who can access the map, put it on google drive. if you want anyone without any log in to view it, put it on mindmup anonymous storage or mindmup gold public storage. they will be able to view, but not change it.
ReplyDeletethe third option is to just export to an image or a PDF and send it to them as a static document.
I cannot find the Dropbox option in the "open from/save to" commands, just Google Drive, MindMup Gold, or local drive.
ReplyDeletehave you activated the extension ( see top of this page)?
DeleteI'm no longer able to authicate my Dropbox account. The extension is activated and it didn't use to be a problem. I can save to my Google Drive account, but it's not quite as useful. I'm using Ubunti 14.04 and Chrome version 36.0.1985.143. Is the problem something to do with what I'm doing or something to do with the way Mindmup and Dropbox?
ReplyDeleteare you using http or https?
DeleteFor Dropbox it's https. Is that what you meant?
DeleteNot for dropbox, for mindmup
DeleteFor mindmup I use http.
Deletetry to switch to https, we're moving to https so something may have changed in the config. we'll shut of http access soon. if this doesn't fix it, please send an e-mail to contact@mindmup.com so we can communicate faster
DeleteI'm having issues saving to dropbox (first time): I've activated dropbox as an extension so now it comes up as one of my options in the dropdown menu for 'save', but unlike google drive or mindmup it doesn't have a symbol next to it and when I click it nothing happens. Can you help please ?
ReplyDeleteHi - Can you please drop us an e-mail at contact@mindmup.com so we can get in touch faster, blog comments aren't really the right channel for troubleshooting. please tell us your operating system and browser version, and ideally a screenshot of the javascript console after the problem occurs.
DeleteHow to move a Mindmup to a specific Google drive folder?
ReplyDeleteyou can do that in mindmup 2.0 only, just select file->move to folder or click the folder icon next to the file name. Mindmup 1.0 does not support working with drive folders
