All right, thanks for the reply. For a person who has never heard the term "working class" you sure know a lot about social classes.

Besides bartenders I don't know anybody that doesn't get vacation time or good healthcare. Remember that reddit is mostly young people just starting out and the USA strives to be merit based. These 18-22 years olds just have to put their time in and they'll achieve a pretty good lifestyle.

Well, I dunno, /r/AskDocs is full of people who aren't college kids but also can't afford a trip to the doctor to check out some ailment. And just to take paternal leave as an example of a benefit: I have a kid, so I hang out in a few subs for parents where there are daily posts about how to make ends meet in low-paying jobs with little parental leave, when daycare is so expensive.

Those are just examples of stuff I see on reddit though. It's obviously all anecdotal, and I don't live in the US so I have no idea. Based on the anecdotes I hear, though, I find it hard to believe that the US is a classless society (and the Wikipedia article I linked to in my last comment does support that view too).

Big cities are known to have sections of low income areas and then high income areas. You're likely in a upper class area and probably don't have much reason to visit lower class areas. These areas house mostly the poor and minorities.

The suburbs are where you can find your typical white collar middle class families, but with the housing fiasco, many people in their late twenties to early thirties aren't able to buy houses and rent instead, leading to a mixture of various people in areas of rented living.

Social class in the US is pretty much tied to your income. If you have a low income, your access to everything is limited. As you ascend, your access opens. Where you shop is where you can afford (unless you're just plain terrible with money, which happens to people who desire to rise above their income limits), so your exposure is limited to other people in your income bracket.

American here, we definitely have social classes. There's wasp's https://www.wikiwand.com/en/White_Anglo-Saxon_Protestant

and our own billionaire family dynasty's like the https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Kennedy_family or the trump family.

More importantly we do have issues with social mobility, not generally as bad as most european countries, but not nearly as egalitarian as others. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Socio-economic_mobility_in_the_United_States

I mean we definitely have social classes in the US, Sex and the city even had a whole subplot about one of the characters marrying up into a very rich established family and feeling out of place, and plenty of successful entrepreneurs like Kanye west have been disparaged for being low class or disobeying social norms despite their economic success.

Classism is alive and well in the US it's just less based upon name or heritage.
