Along with what others have said, American Sniper doesn't so much push a pro war agenda. It highlights the all too real effects that recent wars have had on too many American soilders and how they deal with it when they return home

    Of course it pushes a pro war agenda. It was directed by one of the most conservative, jingoistic men in hollywood. The bad guys are over the top evil caricatures (wearing all black, no speaking lines besides yelling, drilling a child in the head), while the hero is a handsome, patriotic, brave man, killing in the name of good. It's like a goddamn superhero movie but the protagonist is a US soldier.

    There's much more focus on "Yeah go America! Get those baddies!" then the half-assed segment about of how war affects soldiers that was thrown into the last 20 min of the movie.

    Don't forget how the movie glorifies someone who was a really shitty person in real life. That film made anyone but the asshole an asshole.

    1) He was a sailor. Get it right or keep your mouth shut.

    2) The movie explained the life of someone willing to do shit like that so you could have the right to criticize him.

    3) The main antagonist of the movie was shown to have a family, giving him a human motivation making him a villain one could at least attempt to sympathize with. Most propaganda attempts to dehumanize the enemy without mercy.

    I have the right to criticize him because I gave the government the right to exist and the right to form a fucking army. He gets paid to serve, and in time of real need I gave the government the right to force all able bodied males to serve just as he does. So get off your fucking high horse and take some pride in your nation. Not its props.
