Personally i'm for privatizing the police. This would make them subject to the exact same laws as everyone. There would no longer be a different set (or entirely non-existent set) of laws for police.

If your police aren't doing a good job, your city fires the company and hires a different one.

Probable cause will no longer exist. Everything will require warrants for searches, it would require a crime in progress to arrest someone who does not have a warrant.

Privitizing the police would put the power of justice firmly in the hands of the courts. Today all the power exists in the police and the plea bargains forced down citizens' throats.
