120名以上が亡くなったパリ同時多発テロからわずか数日後、パリのレピュブリック広場にイスラム教徒の男性が立った。
彼は目隠しをしており、そばには2つのボードが置かれていた。
1つには「私はイスラム教徒です。人々は私のことをテロリストだと言います」、そしてもう1つのボードには「私はみなさんを信じています。みなさんは私を信じてくれますか? 信じてくれるのなら、ハグしてください」と書かれていた。
果たして人々は、男性をハグしたのだろうか?
一人、また一人と彼に近づき、そして多くの人が彼を抱きしめている。中には目に涙を浮かべている人もいた。動画は11月17日にYouTubeに投稿されている。
「テロリストとは、何の理由もなく他人を殺そうとする人です」と男性は目隠しを取った後で語った。「イスラム教徒はそんなことはしません。イスラム教の教えは殺人を禁じています」
テロの後、イスラム教徒への風当たりが強まっている。一部のモスクは襲撃され、「移民を受け入れるくらいなら自分が国を出たほうがまし」という人もいる。
そんな中、この男性の行動は、人間の温かさを教えてくれた。
