+Ingress +Niantic Project
I have a game mechanic proposal. If a field is over 100k MU — or whatever is considered "big" — it should last for, at-most, one checkpoint. After the checkpoint is over, all 3 portals anchoring the field should go grey immediately. That's it.
BAFs over large metro areas degrade the gameplay experience of any player under the BAF. You can't throw links, and you can barely see the map. I don't know about anyone else, but when I have time to play Ingress I would prefer to enjoy the game to its fullest.
In the Vancouver area both teams have blanketed the metro area many times. Recent BAFs, however, are lasting much longer than previously. For example, RES BAF currently blanketing Vancouver has been up/re-thrown for nearly 3 days straight. That's excessive.
This mechanic could be worked into the storyline just as easily as anything else. It would also allow players to continue throwing BAFs and get their achievements, but would prevent a single BAF from being maintained for days on end, and degrading the Ingress experience for hundreds of other players caught under the BAF.
