Thank god there are sane people in this world.

I'm part Dutch and the more I learn about them, the more I appreciate them. I seriously need to go visit.

good thing for you the upvote arrow is orange. If they were reversed, I'd give you a downvote just so I can throw some orange at you.

hahaha! Orange just so happens to be my favorite color!!

Gee, I wonder why :p

It's genetic!

Oh get a room, you two

Better yet, we have a whole country!

Come visit Holland, we have cheese, stroopwafels, weed and the best DJs in the world. :D

STROOPWAFELS?!?!

Call me American cuz I have no idea what that is!

Stroopwafels are awesome. They are basically thin wafer-like wafels, with a little bit of syrup in between them.

Here is an American explaining them and how to eat them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXQWXPYcrMo
Edit: another American explaining how to eat them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioOgpbeYpbk

Not sure why "how to eat them" is so fascinating.

Wow, that first guy is in pure bliss. 10/10 would view again

For anyone wondering about the pronunciation, the second guy is doing it right. Stroopwafel.

I have an actual addition to them, 4 boxes a week, more if I didnt limit myself

Whaaa?? I love stroopwafels and apparently I've been eating them wrong my entire life. I just eat them straight from the pack. Damn.. I gotta try this

Stroopwafels are lovely. I'm from the UK but take loads home when I go. The Dutch are seriously good at cookies, cakes, and all that sort of stuff.

Also try Hagelslag for breakfast and olieballen as a snack :)

But, but... no dunking? What kind of barbarous place is this?

Holy shit that stuff is expensive. They cost like €1 for a whole pack (about 10-15) of them in stores here.

They are a lot cheaper in stores. Check the international isle.

Now I feel like getting some stroopwafels...

I'll be driving from Enschede to Den Haag soon, which almost takes me past Gouda, which is where stroopwafels were born. Although the best stroopwafels (imho) are from one town over, in Waddinxveen, where my favourite stroopwafel factory is. You can buy them fresh off the line, there.

Guess I'll be taking a little detour from the highway.

Oh man, there are few things better than a fresh stroopwafel

Maybe a slightly warmed due to coffee fumes stroopwafel?

(See the video in a different comment below, they're slightly better when you lay them on top of a coffee mug for a bit, so they slightly warm up)

Who would want cocaine when you can eat some dutch cheese?

[–]Racke 1

and the best DJs in the world. :D

German here, I beg your pardon.

What? Did Armin, Tiësto, Hardwell and Afrojack move to Germany? I'm fairly sure they're still Dutch.

You're welcome to borrow them for a day or two for a music festival every now and then, though.

If you're wondering about the reputation of Dutch DJs: one of your best DJs, Matthias Paul, even uses a Dutch stage name "Paul van Dyk", which so typically-Dutch it's almost a comical stereotype, to seem more legit. :P

Nope, you're out. Most popular maybe, but best? Make that the cat wise ;)

fun fact: carrots were purple once, they were bred to be orange by the dutch

I know, I heard that too! Awesome!

Orange you glad the duke of orange likes orange oranges?

Edit: Orange you an orange Orange orange

Edit2: Orangutang

mine's titanium hwite

Three hairs and some air

Oh god, sane drugs policy aside, you're missing out on a great cafe culture, superb chocolate, and amazing beers. It's a small country so visit Belgium too. Brugges is beautiful and Ghent is supposed to be great fun.

Yes, for traveling information about Bruges, there's a helpful documentary they've made about the city called In Bruges where a friendly Irishman explores the best parts of the city.

I'm not going to fuhckin' Bruges

Why not? It's like a fucking fairytale or something

"Leave my kids fucking out of it! What have they done? You fucking retract that bit about my cunt fucking kids!" "Insult my fucking kids? That's going overboard, mate!"

I freaking LOVE how Harry was so fucking sensitive, even though he is clearly a murderous crime boss. Breaking stereotypes.

Hehe yeah, it seemed a bit absurd, but also shows how delusional he is, thinking that he's still "moral" in some way.

Here we go. Now I have to watch that movie once again.

You could do worse. For example, I could have mentioned Eurotrip as a fine example of varying European cultures.

Actually, I'm not sure that's worse, since that movie is great too. Completely different genre though.

Just don't tell Scotty, he doesn't know.

It's like a feckin fairy tale.

In Bruge, be sure to be wary of ze alcoves. I hear zey are not safe.

To be fair the Netherlands is small geographically meaning you can travel through it really quickly, it doesn't mean there's comparatively little to do. 17 million people in such a small area, there's always something to do.

Maybe if I grew up on a farm and was retarded, Bruges might impress me. But I didn't, so it doesn't.

It's a great system. Haha this video is the shit because I've been to that smart shop! They offered my sister shrooms and they had multiple varieties. The little glass box in the far corner of the counter shot is where they grow psychedelic cactus.

Whoa man, they can't sell "mushrooms" in Amsterdam. They're called "truffles" now, and technically they're different.

My FIL and MIL, along with other family members, immigrated to the US from Holland in the mid 60's. Very opened minded, beer drinking tolerant people. My wife is the most opened minded, caring woman I have ever met.

But hey. Do you know what they put on their french fries instead of ketchup? Mayonnaise.

Have you ever tried eating french fries with mayo? It's delicious. So is the combination of mayo with ketchup.

[–]Kaskar 1

You mean the secrete sauce?

While Mayo is a fantastic sauce to put on fries, nothing beats sate (or peanut) sauce.

I've never tried that, but it's going on my list for the future!

Are you not Dutch? It's also very common here, probably also more common than ketchup on fries. It's fantastic!

Nope, American, I've just traveled a bunch and have a few friends who are either Dutch or Canadian, so having mayo with fries is generally a given.

I swear to god, they fuckin' drown 'em in that shit.

Wait. It's not normal to eat Fries with Mayonnaise in the US?

Yes you do. I went several years ago and it was amazing. If you're tall you'll love it. I'm 6'5 and everyone was around my height. I didn't feel like a fucking jolly green giant.

Same here, my Oma and Opa came over after WW2. Id love to go visit after I graduate college in May.

Oh yea SO sane..."Lets make drugs illegal. Oh no everyone is still doing the drugs and now they are killing people because they are tainted! Lets sell a test kit that makes sure cocaine isnt heroin. Problem solve"...how about making it legal? Hypocritical evil assholes.

Shame your immigration policies aren't as sane.

Yes, enabling possible deadly drug use is very sane.
