Just among my own friends and people I know in general; 4 females had a breast cut completely or partially off due to a seat belt. 6 people had their throats cut, to an obviously non-lethal degree. 2 had their stomach’s cut open to a horrifying degree that I won’t elaborate on. Not even counting the uncomfortably awkward belt locations for particularly large, small, fat, skinny people. Females with large breasts get the joy of holding the belt in place or adjusting it every couple seconds. They’re awkward, uncomfortable, painful, and can often cause the injuries in an accident. Personally know six people who had their throats cut (and for the record since you specify non-lethal I’d rather get my throat cut than fly out the window into traffic)? You personally know two people who were somehow disemboweled or close to by a seatbelt? Like you claim all this but you make no mention of the actual most statistically-common seatbelt-caused injuries–bruised or fractured ribs and sternum (the latter of which I have experienced, and it sucked and hurt like a motherfucker but had I not experienced that pain, I’d likely have died to not be taking you to task right now). Even aside from that, the chances of a seatbelt saving your life are vastly larger than the chances of a seatbelt injuring you significantly. You’re far more likely to be glad you were wearing a seatbelt than regret it. Claiming anything to the contrary and spreading horror stories about people losing their boobs is grossly irresponsible (and I couldn’t find any evidence that anyone’s ever lost a breast to a seatbelt although it might have happened and I couldn’t find it; however, the search did confirm that they can cause injuries, which is obvious and not surprising–lots of pressure in a small area in an accident–and also that it can cause a sort of fat necrosis but no source I could find mentioned a loss of a breast; also this entire argument stinks of the breast-cancer-awareness save-the-tatas breasts-are-more-valuable-than-women argument which is alarming). When you hear stories of people who didn’t wear one, you’ll never think twice about putting one on again. I can guarantee that. The most common cause of death in vehicle accidents here is a “roll over,” which is exactly what it sounds like. The vehicle rolls over and rolls down the ditch. Now, some people do die from just getting banged around inside the car, but it’s not as common as death via ejection. That is to say, someone is flung from the car, and then to add injury to more injury, the car rolls over them and they end up getting run over by their own car. If the initial ejection doesn’t completely wreck you, that usually does. And there’s barely enough left to identify. You ever see those dead raccoons on the side of the road that are so completely obliterated that you can only tell what it was from a little patch of remaining fur clinging to it? That’s you in a rollover. Wear the seatbelt if you can. I know some people are too big for them, it happens, but if you physically can wear it you should.
