Over-the-Counter Culture

Welcome to the Human Riots Movement. I'm an intersex trans woman; a mixed race person of indigenous American (Wintu), Mestizx Caribbean, Latina, and Afro Caribbean descent; abuse victim; and overall angry punk. I've got a lot to be pissed about, but I...

I sometimes hear arguments from meninists that imply that because men are more likely to be arrested and punished for crime that it somehow equates to “female privilege”.

Now, ignoring that the vast majority of crimes in the US and Canada are committed by men, let’s just address the fact that women, statistically, receive smaller sentences for equal crimes committed by men.

This isn’t an example of women benefiting from a system by their design. Most law enforcement agents, federal and state judges, and politicians who create laws surrounding the prison system are men and have been since the beginning of civilization. If a woman was given a reduced sentence based on her gender, it would be by the design of men and not because of some feminist conspiracy to oppress them. Men do not take women seriously, even when the woman in question is a criminal.

What you are complaining about is actually the product of patriarchy.
