I can totally understand the excitement behind it because it is a disruptive technology, but there's a certain sort of man who gets so wrapped up in theoretical academia that he loses track of all the barriers down here in reality that stand in the way of achieving the theoretically perfect ideal. When I can take a trip from here to Italy and not need to convert a single BTC into currency, then it's 'arrived'. Until then, its a deeply esoteric thing, relative to a world where there are still huge swaths of people who are intimidated by using email.

I keep a few btc on ice as a last-resort emergency fund (that can't be seized or confiscated or lost or easily spent on junk) and like I said, I think it truly has serious potential but right now, its sort of like NASA in the late 50's that has yet to go to the moon, with all the sideline dreamers talking about colonizing Mars being right around the corner. The space that exists between notion and actualizing is huge, but it comes cheap in theoretical discussions. That's where some btc boosters go off the rails.

Sue them. The nice thing about Actual Money^TM is that when shit goes bad, you have a legal resource. With bitcoin, all you have is condolences (SFYL) . And bitcoiners straight up lose money A LOT. Not investment wise, literally losing their bitcoins.

You want to talk about bitcoin losing value? Pick your time frame to back up your arguement and ignore the rest of the data.

Saying "ignore the rest of the data" is never a good start to an argument. Early adopters carry all the power in bitcoin, they can hodl till they give up or die. For everyone else, it's just another fad "investment" where the bubble burst.

Bitcoin will always have some value. It's the currency of choice for scammers, blackmailers, online drug dealers, and child pornographers.

Stop being so close minded and look into the possibilities of this new technology.

So should the people of greece have sued their government for freezing their bank accounts? Should the chinese sue their government for imposing capital controls and not letting money leave the country? Bitcoin is as much about fighting financial repression as well as all the other uses.

I understand what volatility is, do you understand what inflation is? I could wake up in 30 years and my fiat currency is GUARANTEED to be worth less than it is today. However my bitcoin has a very good chance of being worth more because there is a limited supply.

Ignoring the rest of the data is what you were doing. You stated that the price of bitcoin has fallen. It has fallen from a point in 2013, but how about since 2011 or earlier? You can pick any point in time to give evidence to your arguement which is what you did. If you look at this year it is actually pretty stable and has gone up today. You cannot look at short term.
